Improving Your Health By Riding an Ebike | Electric Bike Tips

Hey, everyone. Peter here. Sixthreezero e-bikes and bikes. How do we start getting our health back and losing weight with an e-bike?

Okay. For whatever reason, maybe summer's coming up or maybe you just had a wake-up call, but you want to start working on your health, getting your body back a little bit, and maybe lose some weight. I just want to talk briefly about it. I know that everyone talks about weight loss and stuff like that, but there are a few things that I've learned along my own journey that maybe will help you. First of all, you can get as much exercise as you want with an e-bike. A lot of people think an e-bike is maybe more like a motorcycle and you're not going to get any exercise at all, but it's simply not true. You can get really exactly as much exercise as you want with an e-bike because if you have pedal assist for instance, which most e-bikes do and all of ours do, you can set the level at which you would like the assist.

If you need a little more help to get over a little hump, you can use a throttle to give you a boost. But in the meantime, your body's working. You'll know. The first time you get on an e-bike and start using it, you'll see, "Oh, I can get just the exact amount of exercise that I need." It also takes away that fear of like, "Maybe I'm getting too far from home. Am I really going to be able to make it? I haven't used my body in a long time or I haven't exercised in a long time." Anyway, the e-bike will definitely help you get that exercise.

Now, I just want to say something that is not e-bike related, but I was trying to trim down a few years ago and lose a little weight and I went on a diet. What I realized is that you really can't out-exercise a bad diet. Okay? It's really hard to burn those calories because the human body is so efficient at trying to bring in energy and not expend energy. That's why exercise, I think that's why it's so painful is because the body's like, "No, stop doing this. You need to survive." Obviously, we live now in a society and culture where we have plenty of food and all of that and so it's easier to pack on the pounds. But the main thing that I've found is really a diet. You're not going to ever be able to outride a bad diet unless you are like the Tour de France guys. The Tour de France guys eat 10,000 calories a day. Yeah, it's crazy. But that's how much fuel they need is 10,000 calories.

But if you want to look at another way, a slice of pizza, I'm just going roughly here, a slice of pizza would take you an hour of running to work off. I think I would rather just not eat that slice of pizza than run for an hour. I don't want to eat a slice of pizza and then go run for an hour. I don't want to do that. I'd rather just not eat the piece of pizza. The main thing is just you got to watch those fats is the main thing like oils especially. You can just consume so many calories so quickly. Try and eat more protein however you get that. I get a lot of it from Greek yogurt because it has very, very low calories and very high protein.

A cup of Greek yogurt makes me completely satisfied, but it has the same amount of calories as about 13 potato chips. 13 potato chips is not going to make you feel satisfied. In fact, you'll probably feel hungrier, but it's going to take you forever to work those calories off. You're not going to do it. Anyway, that's my main piece of advice. If you are getting ready for the summer or you want to start losing some weight or start getting your health back, you got to look at the diet. That's the number one thing. There's just no way to out-exercise a bad diet. Those guys in the Tour de France, yeah, they can eat whatever they want because they need that 10,000 calories. For you to exercise enough that you can actually burn off the calories that someone normally eats, it's just really hard.

The main thing for the exercising part of it like riding an e-bike or a regular bike is that it starts to condition you. Your heart starts to get stronger. Your cardiovascular system starts to become more efficient. Things start to get toned. Then as you get more muscular and start to lose weight, your metabolism also will start to get better depending on what you're doing. But anyway, yeah, you can absolutely use that e-bike to start getting yourself fit and more toned. Trying to lose weight? Yeah, it's going to burn off a little bit of calories, but like I said, a slice of pizza is going to do you in so just watching that diet would be my main advice.

This is just coming from my own journey. I'm not an expert or anything about it, but I do know that you can use a bicycle to lose weight and to get fit. Watch that diet. As you're riding, you'll start to see yourself getting... your strength coming back and a better, stronger, more efficient cardiovascular system. Your heart will get stronger and healthier. Everything, all of your health will improve as that happens.
