Ebike Misconceptions #1 | You Can't Exercise on an Electric Bike

Okay. So you cannot use an e-bike to get exercise. E-bike misconception number one. So one thing that I hear a lot is actually that some people are hesitant to get an e-bike because they think that you cannot get exercise on it. This is a common misconception, and I'll talk to you a little bit about why. Obviously, with a regular bike, you can get a lot of exercises. You can actually get as much exercise as you want, or maybe even more than you want, depending on if you go too far and end up at the bottom of a hill or something. But a lot of people think that an e-bike is just like a motorcycle and you're just going to be riding it, or like sitting in a car and you're really not going to be doing any work. Well, an e-bike is an amazing thing, I think, especially for a lot of people who maybe aren't at a place in their life where they want to ride a regular bike or want the thrill of being able to go farther and faster on e-bike.

There are a lot of reasons to get an e-bike. And if health and getting in shape is one of them, then I think that an e-bike is really ideal. And here's why. Because with the pedal assist and also using the throttle, you can actually set the setting of the bike to exactly the amount of exercise that you need. It's like if you go into the gym, the treadmill is moving, but it's not doing the work for you. So with the pedal assist on the e-bike, it is doing some work for you. It'll do as much work as you need. Also, it helps a lot too, if you encounter terrain, so you come up to a hill that really is beyond your level of surmounting that, you can just let the e-bike take care of it for you. You can increase the pedal-assist or you can use the throttle to get you up that hill.

So it's almost maybe better for lots of people's situations to use an e-bike for exercise than it is a regular bike because you can go farther and encounter more terrain and go longer than maybe you can on a regular bike. So when you get on your e-bike and you first start riding it and you start to learn about the different levels of pedal assist and how to use the throttle, et cetera, and how much of your own energy you're putting into it, you'll realize that you can get exactly the amount of exercise that you need. Exactly what you need to start to build your body back up, to start building muscle, to start strengthening your heart, and increase the efficiency of your cardiovascular system. And also, you can exercise for longer because you'll be able to let up if you need to let up on your body.

And you're going to find that also, you don't need to be in a more extreme position. On e-bikes, as it has power for you, you can be in a more relaxed position. It's nice on your back. It's nice on your knees. If you want to ride a regular bike for exercise, you usually have to be in a more performance-oriented position, which can put a lot of strain on the lower back particularly. And so it's not a comfortable position for a lot of people. Also, those bikes don't have as comfortable seats and stuff without special equipment like padded shorts, et cetera. So you can ride a regular bike that's going to put you in a nice, comfortable position, take pressure off of your back, and be kind to your knees. And then you can get exactly the amount of assist that you need to get the exercise that you want.

So e-bikes can absolutely be used for exercise. You can get all the exercise you want. You can get just as much as on a regular bike actually. And if you really want to do... Sometimes I will ride the e-bike with no power at all, just to get a little bit of leg strength exercise. And since the e-bike, because of the motor and the battery, it's obviously a lot heavier than a race bike or other bike. You can get even more exercise in that way. But the main thing too, I think, is that for a lot of us, having the e-bike will let you exercise for longer because your body's going to be more comfortable and you can find exactly the amount of exercise that you need, depending on where you are in the ride. If you're on a regular bike, you're just going to have to go as hard as you need to, to cover the distance that you're on.

So with an e-bike, yeah, it's amazing. I think you actually have more options with an e-bike for getting exercise. That's my take on it. And I love riding a regular bike. It's one of my first passions and always will be. Yeah. The e-bike is fantastic for exercise. And especially if you have other issues like your back or your knees, or maybe you feel a little heavier. So hope that helps. Get on that e-bike and ride. I truly hope that that was helpful for you. If you liked it, please do like it and hit subscribe. It helps grow our channel.
