You Won't Believe What's Causing Seniors to Crash Their E Bikes! #1 Reason for EBike Accidents

Hey, everyone. I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today, seniors, I'm going to tell you the one thing that I've seen cause more accidents on e-bikes than anything else. Stick around.

All right, so I'm going to tell you the one thing today, seniors, that I've seen cause more accidents on e-bikes than anything else. But before I do, hit that subscribe button below, and stay in touch with us here at Sixthreezero. Be the first to know about all the new content we're putting out, giveaways we do, and of course, new product releases. All right, e-bikes are exploding in popularity, especially for riders over the age of 50, 55, and 60 because of the fact that you can get assistance from the motor when you pedal. It expands the possibilities of your riding. You can go farther, tackle different terrain that you couldn't tackle on a standard bike, and it just makes it so much more fun. And like I said, expands the possibilities of what you can do on an e-bike. Behind me, I have our Simple Step-Thru e-bike here from Sixthreezero, one of the best e-bikes for seniors.

And if you want to see these products, check the link in the description below and you can see these on our website, sixthreezero.com. All right, now let's get into it. The number one thing that I've seen cause more accidents on e-bikes than anything else amongst senior riders, and it's not what you think it is, it's overconfidence. Now, you can check our YouTube channel. I've done lots of rides with all types of riders, but specifically riders over the age of 55, 60, even 70 and 80. And I've seen people do things they shouldn't. And I've seen accidents occur at points in the ride when they were comfortable on the e-bike, they had the e-bike figured out. And the reason they occurred was because of overconfidence. And the one thing I will say about electric bikes, which is just like a motorcycle, when you learn and train to ride a motorcycle, you have to be the number one most defensive person on the road.

It's important that you see everything, that you're aware of everything. In addition to that, you can never take anything for granted, right? Just because you get comfortable on a bike or a motorcycle, that's when accidents happen. You see people start to ride with one arm or they lean back on a motorcycle and the wheel catches or something like that occurs. Nine times out of 10, it has something to do with rider error and the overconfidence of believing that you had complete control, you take your mind, you let your mind slip for a second, and boom, something happens. And again, I've seen this happen. Commonly, this will occur with something around the throttle or something around the pedal assist. Sometimes it even occurs when people are walking on the bike and they accidentally pull the throttle and the throttle, and the bike shoots off. Other times it's forgetting that maybe you have the motor on and you pull the throttle and the bike juts out, or accidentally pulling the brake instead of the throttle.

Now, to some extent, these are accidents. Everything could fall under the accident category. But what I want to see out of more riders, even younger riders, teen riders, really, is respecting electric bikes. That is number one. If you are going to jump into owning an electric bike or riding an electric bike, you have to have respect for the product and respect for the power. I know as a lot of riders start to get comfortable with the speeds on electric bikes, it doesn't start to feel as fast as when it once did. But you still have to remember, if you're cruising even at 10, 15, upwards of 20 miles an hour plus, which is what e-bikes are capable of, that can cause real bodily injury if you were to fall off, especially if it's just you and the pavement. So while it's important to be confident, it's also important to not be overconfident, right?

And what is that fine line between those two things? Well, honestly, it's just always maintaining the proper discipline when riding a bicycle or electric bicycle. If you enter an intersection, look both ways. Always be mindful of your electric assist setting, whether it's on or off. That's very important on an e-bike. When you're stopping and starting, be very aware of the electrical system and the on and off. And be very aware of your body when you get on and off. Where you place your hands, the brakes, things of that nature, that's going to help you be as safe as possible when you are riding. So this is the number one thing I've seen that causes more accidents than anything else is overconfidence. So just remember to always respect the product, always have your checklist, always be careful, and be safe.

And remember, as an e-biker on the sidewalks or the roads or anywhere out there, you have to be more aware than anybody else.
