Why This 40-Year-Old Man Loves the Simple Step Thru Deluxe E-Bike with Suspension + Lights!

Hey guys, I'm Nate, I'm 40 years old, and I'm excited to share my experience with the Simple Step Through Deluxe e-bike. Come on and join me for a ride! First Impressions: A Different Ride

Taking out the Deluxe for a spin, I immediately noticed a few differences compared to the 20-inch model.

  • Gear Shifting: I actually prefer the gear shift on this one. You rotate it in two different directions, and I found it intuitive to quickly shift into third gear while using pedal assist two.
  • The Throttle: The accelerator/throttle is on the left-hand handlebar and requires you to use your thumb to trigger it. This is a change from the motorcycle-style throttle on the 20-inch, but it's very responsive.
  • Pedal Assist: The pedal assist buttons (up and down arrows) are also easy to reach with my thumb.

Cruising down the street, I was hitting about 10 miles an hour. Shifting up to sixth gear gave me more resistance, which is great for getting a better workout without completely burning myself out. Comfort and Fit (I'm 5'9")

At 5'9", I found the Deluxe Step Through to be significantly more comfortable than the 20-inch model.

  • Height and Width: This bike is a little bit more off the ground and a little wider.
  • Ride Feel: I felt slightly cramped on the 20-inch, but this model offers a much more comfortable ride. If you're a little shorter, the 20-inch might be better, but for someone my size, this one feels much better.
  • Handlebars: The handlebars are perfectly placed. My arms are slightly angled at the elbow—I'm not straight-arming it, nor am I cramped up. I was definitely comfy!

Performance and Power

The ride feels nice and smooth, especially on flat terrain like the business park I rode through.

  • Suspension: I know the suspensions are a key advertised feature. While I didn't notice them much on a smooth road, riding over some rougher terrain definitely provided good feedback.
  • The Throttle Kick: I didn't need the throttle for a lot of the terrain, but I decided to give it a try. The moment I used the pure throttle, it was super responsive. It honestly felt like riding a comfortable scooter with a seat—a powerful boost when you need it.
  • Uphill Power: Even going up a slight hill in sixth gear and pedal assist four, I was accelerating smoothly at 13 miles an hour.

Final Thoughts: A Great Balance

I'm still getting used to the "step-through" aspect after years of swinging my leg over a traditional bike, but this is a fantastic e-bike.

I feel it strikes a great balance between the 20-inch and the fat tire models. You get the stability of a wider, bigger wheel and a little more solid presence in your hands. It's a superb all-around option.

Thanks for coming on the ride!
