Which Is More Stable? 4-Wheel E-Bike vs. Fat Tire E-Trike! Simple Glide vs. ANYterrain

Which is more stable, the four-wheel e-bike or the fat tire simple glide?

Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today we're going to talk about which one is more stable, the four-wheel any terrain e-bike or the Simple Glide fat tire e-trike. We get a lot of test riders here in San Clemente, and many people are drawn to the Anyterrain four-wheel e-bike. Also, the Simple Glide fat tire is one of the most popular as well. But there are a lot of people who want a four-wheel bike because they really want maximum stability, which I can absolutely understand. And there's this belief that four wheels are going to be more stable than three. Now that is not always. In particular, when you have the correct geometry, tire width, you can get maximum stability that, in my opinion, is equal to or more stable than a four-wheel setup. And in this situation, I've had lots of test riders ride both of these, and I will say, stability-wise, it is a pretty close match, but many people do choose the Simple Glide. Now, there are a few reasons for that. Number one, the four-wheel e-bike is a much larger, heavier product. You can tell by looking at the two of them. It is longer than the Simple Glide. It is also about 20 pounds heavier. Now, the reason for that is also because you get a lot of cargo space in the back, and the basket itself weighs about 10 to 15 pounds, which you don't have that very large basket on the rear. You're also adding wheel, which is obviously going to add additional weight, right? The rim, the hub, you name it. All of those things are going to increase the weight. So I'll do my best to try to describe in words how these are a little bit different and how they vary in stability. So with the simple glide, because of this recumbent style frame and the four-inch wide tires. It is really, really stable in my opinion, the most stable electric trike that I've ever ridden. And I would say the customers who test ride also feel that way as well.

Now, the cool thing is that when you only have the one tire in the front, it makes for a smaller turning radius. than let's say any terrain. The difference is that you also have this big seat. and you have the recumbent pedaling position, where your feet are out in front of your body while you're pedaling. So a little more nimble, a little, I wouldn't say easier to turn, but a little more fluid to turn, and incredibly stable around turns. You also have the nice high backrest seat with the armrests as well. Now, moving on to the four-wheel, any terrain. It is really, really stable. More stable than most tricycles that are on the market. You can see you've got this front end that tilts and leans, right? So if one wheel goes up, the other wheel goes down. So if you're going over uneven terrain, both wheels will still stay on the ground. That is a really nice feature when you're talking about going down curbs, things like that, where both wheels will always stay down on the ground. Steering, any electric trike or four-wheel e-bike, you have to steer, right? So I would say how that makes sense, on a regular bike, you kind of lean right on trikes, or on the four-wheeled, you actually have to steer. So with the one wheel here on a trike in the front, you have to steer, and sometimes people feel like trikes pull them in one direction.  However, on the Simple Glide, it's a more natural steering feeling. But because of having the two wheels in the back and the one in the front, it creates this feeling that you have to hold the bar straight. Now, on the four-wheeler, you've got two wheels in the front, two wheels in the back.

It's a more proportionate setup. It feels easier to go straight, I would say. But you still have to steer to go the direction you want to go. The other thing, too, and I've tested this, you can see other videos, it's incredibly stable. But for many people, it's a weird sensation when they get on, and they turn. They feel like they have to lean, and it's going to tip. But you can see, I can shake this pretty good, and it doesn't really move. Getting on the simple glide, and this is something that sets the simple glide apart from a lot of other trikes. Many people get on an electric trike for the first time, and they feel like they're going to tip over or any tricycle. When you get on the simple Glide, you do not have that feeling at all. On the four-wheeler, I would say because it's a little bit different, you do get that feeling, or some people do, not all of it. I didn't, but it depends. And so people tend to lean, or they feel like they have to lean to achieve stability on the simple Glide. You'll never see someone having to do that. So it's not that I would say these are about equal stability. But again, it's the feeling or the thought in your head of it not seeming stable. I also think because you're sitting up higher on any terrain, people think there's more of a chance for it to be unstable. But again, it's more, I think, a mental belief. So it actually doesn't matter if riders are feeling that way. going to go. It makes them feel more comfortable, but I actually really like the four-wheeler. This one has a little bit of forward pedaling. It's not a full recumbent. It has reversed again. It is really stable. You can take turns.

You can see the turning radius is a little bit less than the simple glide because this is the max. You can turn the handlebars. So if you were to make a U-turn, it'd be a little bit wider. Any train both of them do have a reverse, though if you need to turn around or back up or do anything like that. And of course, you have all this extra storage here. So, to sum it all up, both are incredibly stable. Different features that make them stable. The recumbent position makes the simple glide really stable. The front-end steering system that allows the wheels to tilt and one go up and one go down, keeps both wheels on the ground at all times. So that's my summary.
