What Makes an Electric Bike for a Woman? Ebikes for Women

Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry, and today I'm going to answer the question, what makes an e-bike a woman's e-bike? Stick around.

All right, so today we're going to answer the question what makes an e-bike a woman's e-bike or an electric bike for a woman? Before I get into it though, go ahead and hit subscribe below. Stay in touch with us here at Sixthreezero. Be the first to know about all the new content we're putting out, new products we're releasing, and of course, giveaways we do for e-bikes, bikes, and accessories. All right, now e-bikes have become all the rage. They're all over the market. You're seeing tons of different examples and there's always this conversation or there's always labels on a lot of bike products that this is a woman's e-bike, this is a men's e-bike, or this is a women's regular bike or a men's regular bike. When you start to talk about the e-bike space, it's become a little bit more of a blurred line in terms of products for genders.

Now even in the regular bike space, you could always just argue any bike is for anybody. It doesn't matter if you're a woman if you're a man. that's truly the philosophy that I take, right? There's no bike out there that's going to be best for a woman. One thing I will say, some seats on the market could be molded and shaped to be more specific to the general woman population, tailbone sizes, et cetera. But when you talk about the geometry of a frame, it doesn't matter because a woman could be built like a man, and a man could be built like a woman. So when you're talking about the e-bike space, in reality, all e-bikes are on the table for all women. There's nothing really in the market that I've seen that denotes an e-bike being specifically for a woman or a woman's body.

Now there are elements like we at Sixthreezero incorporate, which are general comfort elements, adjustability elements, and easy on and off mounting and dismounting elements as we have here on our simple step-through e-bike. But those are just general design elements that could be applied to any gender, a woman or a man. Now you could get into the color element. Now we at Sixthreezero take an approach with the design where we do have a group of women that we turn to when we design e-bikes that we're hoping to attract females in sales. So from that standpoint, we have a woman design team choosing color palettes that we think will resonate with them. A lot of e-bike companies, choose colors that I would say historically have a more masculine feel or they're more gender-neutral. We put a lot of time and effort into researching colors that we feel will do well for women, and we also research colors that we feel will do well neutral, like a man, and a woman, like a color like navy blue like this.

It kind of has an appeal for both genders, to be honest, but it's also very popular for women. So really when you talk about what makes a product an e-bike, a man or a woman, nothing, any e-bike can be ridden by a woman, any e-bike can be ridden by a man quite honestly. Now I would say the average height of a woman is going to be shorter than the average height of a man. So one thing I will say is you may find e-bikes that are geared towards taller individuals, and in that case, it's not to say that it's for a man or a woman, but you're probably going to attract more men if it has larger wheels, a taller frame only because a larger percentage of men are going to fit into that category, but any woman can also ride that e-bike. Now when you take a look at a bike like this simple step-through e-bike also, this is geared for men or women.

The reason you could say this is great for women is that, like I said, women are on average going to be shorter than men. So with a simple step through like this, it's going to be easy to get on and off and easy to mount and dismount, and you're going to have a lower seat height that's going to make it easy to get on and off. So again, this can apply to any height, whether you're a man or a woman, but if you're talking about averages and how women are shorter, this bike is generally going to be better for more women because of how low set the seat is, how easy it is to get on and off. Again, if you're a six-foot-one man, getting your leg over a higher bar is going to be much easier. If you're a five-foot woman, getting your leg over a higher bar is not going to be as easy.

The only thing else I will say is when you talk about, and this is how the design of bikes came to be for men and women hundreds of years ago, things have changed. But when women typically wore skirts, they wanted a step-through frame so they could get on and easily mount and sit on the bike without their skirt lifting up or basically without their skirt lifting. Now in this day and age, again, women and men can dress the same, pants, shorts, you name it. But in the situation if you are a woman, you want to wear a skirt, a dress or something like that, you don't want to have to throw your leg around. You want easy mounting and dismounting. So that is one benefit if you should want to ride your e-bike in a variety of different clothing and you want to make sure it's easy to get on and off, you're not going to rip something, rip a pant leg or something because you're straining to get your leg over it.

So with that said, any woman can ride any e-bike. There are some e-bikes out there that will be a little bit more conducive to the average heights of women, possibly to the clothing women are wearing. But I just want to continue to reiterate that I'm all for riding the bike that is best for your body. But I do believe the simple step-through e-bike has some advantages for women because of how it's geared for the shorter average height, but also taller heights because you can raise the seat up.
