What Does 20MPH Feel Like on an E BIKE?!?! Unveiling the Sensation of High Speeds on an E Bike

What does 20 miles an hour on an e-bike feel like?

Hey everyone I'm Dustin I'm nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. And today we're going to show you and help you feel what 20 miles an hour feels like on an electric bike. All right, right here I've got our 750-watt zip and fold and our 500-watt simple step-through. Today I'm going to take out the zip and fold and try to give you guys a sense of what 20 miles an hour on an electric bike feels like. I think a lot of riders when they ride, have been riding a regular bicycle their whole life, they don't have a sense of how fast or slow they've ridden. And you see now a lot of advertising like, oh, an e-bike can go 20 miles an hour with a throttle or 28 in pedal assist. And nobody has a real sense of what that feels like. So today, I'm going to take you out in the street and just give you an idea and show you how fast it looks like when I ride by so you can see, and get some sense of what 20 miles an hour looks like. And I'm going to try to convey to you what it feels like as well. So I'm of course gonna wear my helmet and I think what we're gonna all realize today is 20 miles an hour on an e-bike is Pretty fast.

So we're gonna suit up, get out to the street, and take you with us. Okay, so we're gonna just do a couple different speeds and I'm just gonna pass by the camera. You can get a sense of what it looks like. So first I'm just gonna start at 5 miles an hour and we're just gonna ride by and we'll go to 10, 15 and 20 and you can see, what all they, all of them look like, and then I'll kind of describe to you what 20 miles an hour looks like. So, here we go. Okay, here's five miles an hour. Not too fast. Alright let's crank it up to 10. see how that feels. Here's 10. a little faster Okay, next stop, 15.

15. All right, for the last one, I'm just gonna give it full throttle. Should cap us at 20 miles an hour, and hopefully it looks pretty fast, so let's do this. 20. So I had to do pedal assist with my body weight. I'm 220 just to get us over the, I only hit about 18 and a half just with the throttle. So, I mean, it's fast. so what I'm going to do now is I'm going to hold the camera and take you with me as we do 20 miles an hour and you can kind of feel and hear, you can already hear the wind. So let's go ahead and take you along. I will say, you know, it's going fast and there's not going to be many situations where you're going to go 20 miles an hour unless you're on an open road or a path that doesn't have a lot of congestion.

You know, a lot of road cyclists have to ride in the bike lane or places where they can, you know, average 18, 19, 20 miles an hour. So, again, you're gonna need some wide open space. You're not doing 20 through, you know, Tight sidewalks or bike trails or things like that. Because, yeah, I mean, if people come out, you have to hit the brakes and things so alright We'll bring you along with me and I'll show you what it looks like from my POV. Okay, we're off. Now I'm just going to get up and go here. Okay. 18, 19. Let's get back to the straightaway. We just clipped 20 there. Now you can see 20. That's 20. We're going pretty fast. Cars are flying by.

Okay. Okay. Let's turn around. Okay. Here we go. Back the other way. Okay, that's 20. 22. Gonna hold on with two hands as we come around the corner. Straight away. That's 21. And we are going fast. All right. Now we're going. Let's go ahead and take our pedal assist down. So I had it in level five. Let's say, you know, 15, 10 to 15 miles an hour is a good sort of cruising pace. And then once you get up to 20, it feels fast. Alright, so although it's hard for you to feel what I felt at 20 miles an hour, 20 is fast. 10 doesn't feel fast. And I would say, like I said, cruising between 10 to 15 miles an hour feels good.

20 feels like it's going to be hard to make good choices in terms of avoiding obstacles and avoiding cars and things like that. So again, unless you've got a really wide open space or road, 20 you can do, otherwise, I mean, it's fast. You can see in the video, cars are passing by me at a pretty fast pace. I was getting over 20 miles an hour with the pedal assist, but I wouldn't recommend 20 for everybody as a normal cruising speed. 10 to 15 is great. And again, at that high pace, you just, I didn't feel like, you know, you worry more about what's coming out of here, what's coming out of there, a little slower. I could survey the scene a little bit better.

Now, I know that there are road cyclists out there that are riding 20 to 25 miles an hour. A lot of them ride in groups, which is smart. They also, you know, stay on the road, like I said. So if you're going to go that pace, 20 miles an hour, you want to be in the street or in a bike lane that's, you know, straight and you feel safe. Also, if you're traveling at those speeds, wear a helmet, just be safe. And, you know, other body protection is recommended as well.

Is 20 MPH on an E-Bike Fast Enough For You?

Is 20 Miles Per Hour High Ebike Speed?

Well, the answer to this question depends on where you are riding. On open and wide bike lanes, going 20 Miles Per Hour feels exciting and fun. But in busy areas (Such as Narrow Paths Or Crowded Sidewalks), it can be electric bike speed. You need to have enough space to ride in a safe and responsible way.

A speed of 10 to 15 Miles Per Hour is comfortable and safe for most riders. But when you hit 20 Miles Per Hour, you have to stay alert and be ready to react. At this speed, you might need to avoid riding very near to pedestrians or cars. So, while 20 MPH can be enjoyable, you also need to make sure you are paying attention to your surroundings.

Safety Considerations When Riding An Ebike

Riding at electric bike speed on your bike can be exciting, but it is important to stay safe. Here are some simple tips to help you ride faster while protecting yourself from possible accidents.

  2. Ride In Wide And Open Spaces – You should ride on roads with clear and open spaces. You should also avoid busy areas with different types of obstacles. Wide spaces will allow you to control your speed better and give you enough time to react if something unexpected happens while riding fast.
  3. Be Aware Of Surroundings – You must always watch the road for dangers, such as potholes, animals, or other vehicles. You also need to stay focused and be ready for sudden changes, like a car cutting in front. Being alert will further help you to stay safe and handle emergencies.

By following these tips, you can enjoy riding your Ebike at high speeds. Hence, you must always stay aware of your surroundings, wear the right safety gear, and control your bike for a safe ride.

Protective Equipment To Wear When Riding At Higher Speed

When riding your ebike at a faster speed, it is important to wear the right protective equipment. The right gear can help keep you safe in case of falls or accidents. Here is what you should wear.

  1. Light – It helps you to see other things and be seen by others as well. Hence, it makes sure drivers and other people can notice you when you are riding at a higher speed. Always use front and rear lights for better safety.
  2. Lock – Using a lock will keep your electric bike safe when you stop as it prevents thieves from stealing it. Hence, you should choose a strong and good-quality lock to make sure your bike stays secure when you are not around, especially in public places.
  3. Bell – People use it as useful equipment to let others know you are coming. When riding fast, you must the bell to warn pedestrians and other riders ahead so they can move aside in advance. 
  4. Helmet – Using a helmet is important is important to keep your head safe if you fall or crash. Hence, it further helps prevent serious injuries. Always wear a helmet that fits well and is fastened. Fastening it means that the helmet should not be too tight or too loose.
