We Found the SAFEST E-Trike for Elderly Riders – You Won’t Believe How Stable It Is! See Why!

The safest electric trike for elderly people. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today I'm going to show you the safest e-trike for elderly people. Okay, right here, I have the Simple Glide E-Trike which is our 500-watt standard tire, and this is our 750-watt fat tire. Now, I've done hundreds of test rides with elderly individuals. Over the age of 70 and 80. They've ridden many of our e-trikes, and I've witnessed firsthand which features they like and dislike. Ultimately, the one that many elderly riders choose as their favorite electric trike is the Simple Glide for a handful of reasons. Now, I think number one is if you're somebody looking to get an electric trike, you obviously wanna be safe. Now, the Simple Glide is one of the safest, if not the safest, electric trikes out there. I'm gonna say it is the safest for a couple of reasons. Now, number one, if you notice, it has a little bit of a longer frame, and the pedals are moved forward, so the rider is pedaling out in front of their body, so we would consider this a recumbent-style e-trike. Now, because of the longer frame, it creates an incredibly stable, balanced platform on which to ride. Also, a very low center of gravity and a low seat height to get on and off. This is a 24-inch high seat, so sliding in and out is incredibly easy. Also, with these armrests here, riders can shift their body out, push down, and get off. Also, to get on, all you have to do is sit right here, and you can actually put the armrest down to get on, and then push down here to slide your feet on.

The mounting and dismounting process of the sea trike, in my opinion, is the easiest that is out there. Now, there are also lower-to-the-ground trikes, but going too low to the ground can make it difficult to get up from, right? So, this is a good height. You sit down easily, so the mounting and dismounting process is a very low-stress, simple process. Now, in addition to that, of course, you want it to be stable and you don't want it to tip, right? Well, this is hands down, I've ridden so many trikes, and e-trikes, and this is the most stable e-trike. Now, this one is also right up there, but by adding the 4-inch wide tires, and this elongated frame, this trike is almost impossible to tip, as is this one as well, but if you want the extra, extra stable, you go with the 4-inch wide tires. So, I've cornered, I've done everything on e-trikes, this one, never have I had the rear wheels lift off of it. Now, again, you can't be taking corners at 30 miles an hour. It doesn't even go 30 miles an hour. But, you know, if you ride recklessly, of course, there's always the risk of tipping or crashing. The same goes true of a two-wheel e-bike. But I've tested this one at high speeds. I've never had an issue at all while out riding. So incredibly safe for cornering. The other thing, too, is that this is 750 watts, this is a 500-watt, so if you want a little more power with the bigger tires, you can opt for that.

What makes this also safe is how easy it is to steer and control. The bars come into your body, you have a twist throttle here, you can twist to power the trike without pedaling at all, and you can rest your arms here, so you don't have to worry about fatigue or, you know, holding your arms up like this. You also have five levels of pedal assist that you can utilize while you're pedaling as well. So again, it's nice to have that power as you're taking on hills or longer rides, whatever it may be. Now, you have mechanical disc brakes, also adding to the safety of this trike. They're gonna stop very quickly and easily. You just pull your levers. No matter if you're coming on declines or flat ground, having those disc brakes makes the stopping power incredibly easy and safe. So, in addition to that, as I said, the top speed on this one's gonna be about 20 miles an hour. This one's gonna be about 16. You have a 15 amp-hour battery on both, so your range is up to 50 miles, which depends on the rider's weight. Also, how do you utilize the electricity on your rides? That will affect the range you get. But in terms of safety, and if you're looking for an electric trike and you don't wanna be scared of tipping, 99 times out of 100, when we have an elderly rider, they love this one the most. Now, I forgot to mention the seat. A lot of people say, Oh, but it makes me look old. Well, no, it doesn't. I ride this around all the time because I love it. But B, it is insanely comfortable. You have a lumbar support here. You have a nice mesh backing. It feels like you're sitting in a comfortable office chair while you're out riding your electric trike. 

 I'll mention that why this is a safety feature is because sitting on the seat doesn't require any strength from the rider at all, right? If you have a thinner seat, you do have to keep your body balanced and erect on that seat. When you have a wide platform like this, you just sit your body down and you don't have to worry about falling off or sliding off. And honestly, I have had that happen to riders before where they've been on a smaller seat and they slip out the side. With the armrests down here, you are safe and secure in the seat. You don't have to worry about falling off, tipping over, or anything like that. So it can give you real peace of mind to not worry or be stressed out while you're out for a ride.
