Unleash the Power: 5 Reasons Why ELECTRIC BIKES are GREAT for Seniors: Every SENIOR Needs an E-Bike

Five reasons why buying an e-bike as a senior is a really good idea. Stick around to find out. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I've nearly 20 years experience in the bike and e-bike industry and today we're going to talk about five reasons why buying an e-bike as a senior is a really good idea. But before we get into it, hit that subscribe button below, stay in touch with us here at sixthreezero, and be the first to know about all the new content we're putting out, giveaways we're doing, and of course new product releases. All right, before I get into it, one thing I just want to show you, this is the simple step through e-bike from sixthreezero. This is an awesome e-bike for seniors because it has a very low step-through, it's easy to mount and dismount and also has an ergonomic upright riding position with a 500-watt motor and 10.4 amp hour battery.

Hit speeds up to 20 if you want, and ride up to 50 miles. This thing is awesome, so check it out, link in the description below. All right, so if you are a senior and you're in the market for an e-bike, I've got five reasons why an e-bike is a really good idea. Now, caveat to all this before I get into five reasons why it's a really good idea, there are also reasons why it's not so good of an idea depending on your circumstances, your physical capability, and also the reality. One thing I just want to say before I get into it is e-bikes do present some level of danger, but if you take your time, if you learn and you ride them properly, then they are so much fun and can be so safe and they can get you out doing things that you haven't done in a while, which is our number one reason or it's not our number one reason, just five reasons.

But the first reason why it's a really good idea for seniors to get an e-bike is it can get you out doing things you may or may not have done in years. At sixthreezero, I've personally led and been on hundreds of rides with senior riders over the age of 60, and I've wanted to get senior riders out here who haven't been on bikes for a very long time, for various reasons. Could be physical limitations, could be arthritis, could be knee surgeries, back surgeries, and there was a mindset that, "Oh, I can't ride bikes anymore or I won't be able to go as far as I used to." Getting an e-bike is the first reason why it's so great because it can get your body doing things you probably haven't done in years.

I've seen riders who couldn't move their knees or they couldn't generate the power under their ability to get the bike moving. With an e-bike, you can use the pedal assistance, you can use the throttle to get the bike moving and it helps to move your knees. I've seen lots of riders that have been excited to come in and say, "You know what? My arthritis has been limiting my knee movement or my hip movement and I'm excited to get on an e-bike because now I can do rides I haven't done before." The other thing too is you may have hills by where you live and you haven't been able to ride a regular bike up or down a hill.

Now with an e-bike, you could do those hills and get out and do the riding that you haven't done in years, and that's the number one reason, well, not the number one reason, but the first reason why it's a really good idea for seniors to get e-bikes is because it's going to keep your body moving and you don't have to be scared about how far you're going to ride because you're going to have the e-bike assistance to help you get home and you don't have to worry about powering yourself back. It's a great option.

This kind of segues into the number two reason why it's a really good idea for seniors to get e-bikes health. Now, I see a lot of these comments out here about people saying, "Oh, e-bikes are cheating," or this and that. I completely disagree. It's kind of like when you go to the gym and they have that pull-up bar and you can kneel on it and it gives you assistance and helps you make a pull-up, right? For a lot of people, they can't do pull-ups. I can't do a pull-up, but by building up my strength, kneeling on that pull-up assistance over time, I could build the strength to do a pull-up. E-bikes are great for health because they get you out riding, they get your muscles back to strength and then over time, like the simple step through, if you choose to, you don't have to use the assistance on rides.

So it's a really good idea because it's going to help your health, it's going to help your heart, it's going to help your muscles, and as we get older, it's more and more important to even keep our legs moving, keep our joints moving. Even if we feel some of that tension, some of that pain, some of that restriction from arthritis, whether it be shoulders, wrists, or back, it's still going to be a good thing to keep it moving to a certain extent. Now, I'm not talking about pushing limitations and creating muscle strains, but we want to keep our muscles moving in order to not allow them to atrophy as we get older. Now, number three, a really good reason is getting an e-bike can help keep you out of your car. And while e-bikes are not inexpensive, I would say the average price is somewhere around $1,500 to $2,000.

If you live in a community or are in proximity to a lot of grocery stores or shopping, you can just start to use your e-bike instead of the car. And the reality is, over time, you're going to save yourself money. Now, you may think as I say, "Oh, you're not going to save yourself money," but if you can think about the type of mileage that you can do on your e-bike per week in exchange for not using your car over the course of the year, I guarantee you, you can save more than the cost of a $1,500, $2,000 e-bike, and I'm just talking about in year one, you can be paid back for that investment.

As you own the e-bike over time years 2, 3, 4, 5, you can start to use it for more things, for groceries, going to the pool, going to the beach, whatever it may be, not just your enjoyment, but for purposeful errands, it actually will save you money, especially with the cost of gas and the cost to charge an e-bike. Even if you have an electric car, the cost to charge an e-bike and the miles you're going to get is going to be substantially less and more affordable than what it will cost to charge a car and the cost per mile you're going to get on a car versus an e-bike, the e-bike is going to be so much less expensive. Now, the fourth reason, a really good idea to get an e-bike is for the social element.

There are a lot of senior riding groups out there, whether it be bikes or e-bikes or it's just ride, whatever you feel comfortable with, there's an opportunity to get out and make friends and meet people, ride in your community. You could check Facebook groups, you can check Meetup, you can check your local bulletin board. I'm certain that there are bike-riding groups that get out. Maybe they grab coffee or go for a ride, and so it's just a good way to stay social and interact with others. You can also start your group in an area if you want to do bike riding yourself, but it's one of those things that connect with a community. I know there are also lots of walking groups, but I've seen also with the creation of e-bikes, that there's been a lot of senior e-bike riding groups that have been built out there. I firsthand see them on Facebook groups. If you haven't checked out Facebook groups before, it's a great place to find people in your area.

There are also apps like Nextdoor that have your local community. You can find people out there also taking e-bike rides as well. So look out for that. And like I said, it's a great way to get out and be social. So that's four reasons. Our fifth reason why I think it's a really good idea for seniors to get e-bikes is quite honestly, it's just a lot of fun. And that's one thing I think it's important when we move into a retirement phase is how we keep having fun. How do we keep enjoying life? There may be lots of other ways out there that you can do it, but e-bikes, the wind in your face, the breeze, enjoying the environment, enjoying the weather, it is so much fun and because of the fact that you don't have to use your muscles and if you don't want to overexert yourself, you don't have to. It makes it so that you just want to smile the whole time because it's super enjoyable.

And I see lots of seniors now that have turned this into more than just having fun from the ride. They're doing trips with their e-bikes, they're doing trail rides with their e-bikes. They're going on adventures on their e-bikes in different parks and different places, and so it's just good for their mental health to have that kind of fun, to have something to look forward to, and also to have that little bit of exhilaration. And even for you, if it's only going six miles an hour, eight miles an hour, 10 miles an hour, whatever it is, to have that feeling of excitement I think is so important to maintain that and to experience that into the later years of our life. And so if you're looking for something like that, I think an e-bike is a great option. I love it as well. I don't ride motorcycles. I used to and now I'm not going to anymore, and I can kind of replace that feeling that I had on a motorcycle with my e-bike with a much safer two-wheel option.

Those are my five reasons why I think getting an e-bike as a senior is a really good idea.
