Top ETrikes for Seniors: The Best Electric Tricycles for Comfort and Safety

The best electric trike for seniors in 2025. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today, I'm going to show you the best electric tricycle for seniors. All right, I've got the Simple Glide electric trike here, the fat tire 750-watt version. Let me reverse that. The Fat Tire 750-watt version and the 500-watt standard tire version. With senior riders now, senior riders over 60, 65, 70. Now, the physical shape of anybody, regardless of age, varies. So, some riders over the age of 60 may not be ready for a tricycle, some may be, but in all of my test rides, these two trikes or this model of trike ended up being the number one electric tricycle for us. And I'm going to explain now, many riders are, when they get over the age of 60, or 65, they don't feel comfortable on two wheels anymore, and balancing, they opt for three wheels. Now, not all three-wheel bikes, e-bikes, and trikes are created the same. They have different geometries. There are more upright ones, more recumbent ones. Now two, I would classify these as recumbent, but they're not as extreme as a lay-down recumbent. So you may have seen those before as well.

You're still sitting upright on these, but you are pedaling out in front of your body like a recumbent bicycle at a gym, right? So very comfortable seating position. You can also tell you've got an office chair-style seat with the high backrest, the lumbar support here, and the armrests as well. Now, it may look funny to you at first glance, but I will tell you that 99 out of 100 people who get on this cannot believe the comfort level. And they love it for that reason. Now, of all the over 60 riders, their one complaint, a lot of them, is that, oh, I don't like the way it looks. And I have this chair with a backrest, but I'll tell you what, the function makes up for that appearance. And quite honestly, I'm in my forties. I love cruising around on this thing because so comfortable, so easy. Now, the other thing, too, can double as your mobility device. And the cool thing is with some adjusting of the handlebars right here, you can bring these close to your body right here, and you can rest your arms on the armrest while you steer. So if you're looking for something, again, where you don't have to hold your arms up and put tension on your shoulders, you can grab it right here while you're pedaling i'm hard-pressed to think there's any electric trike out there that provides this type of comfort level and comfort in your seating position.

Now you can also see my feet out in front of my body here. Again, as opposed to having to pedal down. The reason I like this for seniors is that on a typical conventional trike, which we also make, and there are good models that we have, but you have to be higher up to get the proper leg extension. The reason for that is that the pedals are located right below your body, so to get the proper leg extension, you have to raise the seat. Now, the issue I find with many senior riders is that they don't like to raise the seat because they want to be closer to the ground to feel safer and more stable, right? So as a result, they're not getting great leg extension on those more conventional tricycles. With this one, you can be lower to the ground and still get the leg extension because the pedals are in front of your body. And you can see how easy the mounting and dismounting is because you can just flip that armrest up and slide out of the seat. Again, if you have that seat higher on a conventional trike, you have to lift it to get on that seat. In this case, you can sit down to get on the seat and slide your butt over. All right. So you've got two versions here as well. This is a 750-watt rear-mount motor with the fat tires. If you're going to do hard-pack trails or you just like the peace of mind of having a wider tire for added balance, this is a good option. Or the standard 500-watt with the thinner tires, still really good, and performs well. Again, you just have a narrower tire.

It's going to roll a little easier on pavement and put less strain on the battery and motor when you're riding. So those two options are available. And of course, you have a twist throttle here that you can ride on this without pedaling. So what makes this cool is that it can double as your mobility device, right? So on the days you don't feel like pedaling, but still want to zip around a community or go out and run some errands, you can take this and not pedal at all. Front basket here. Now, another feature of the 750 is that you have a footrest. So on those days, you don't want to pedal, flip the footrest down, and go ahead and put your feet on there. So that's a cool option as well. And you can also see the very low step-over height. Now that another thing I've noticed with many senior riders out there is that they want a low step-over height to get their legs over and through the bar. This is easy. You can also sit down and swing your leg over, so it makes it easy to get your leg over. I've seen it where if that bar is just half an inch too high, it's almost impossible for some senior riders to mount and dismount. So getting on and off is paramount because you don't want to be stressed or anxious about just getting on your tricycle before you even take a ride, right? Because if that happens, then I guarantee you it's gonna sit, collect dust, and you're not gonna wanna ride it. So both of these are easy to get on and off, and easy to control. You have five levels of pedal assist when you are pedaling to provide you with assistance as you see fit. You can go up to 16 miles an hour. You also have a range of up to 50 miles, depending on your weight.

Where you ride it, and of course, how you use the assistance. If you use a higher level of assistance, you're going to drain the battery quickly. If you use lower levels, you're going to get more range out of the battery. This is my pick, honestly, for the 2025 Best E-Trike for seniors.
