This Electric Bike Made Me Feel 30 Again! | Senior Test Ride Review

Hi everyone, it's Diane. I'm back at Sixthreezero, and today I am test riding the EvryJourney e-bike. I'm really excited to test out this bike. It has the low step-through like the other bikes I rode before, and I don't know, let's go for a ride. All right, off we go. So I am starting in gear five because we're on a flat road right now. And that is just the perfect gear for this bike ride. It's a little windy today. I will say this bike is super comfortable. The seat is comfortable. I think what also lends to the comfort is that the leg... The pedals are forward, I guess is the best way for me to say it. So it allows me to be closer to the ground. The seat is lower, but I'm getting the leg extension that you want on a bike ride, which is good because it makes you feel comfortable. So we're on a flat road right now. I'm still in gear five, and I do not have pedal assist on because I don't need it. But it's nice to have. Boy, this bike is nice. There are seven gears on here, and I'm in a really good gear for what we're doing right now. getting a little bit of exercise, but not overexerting myself. I will also tell you that I like the handlebars. Very comfortable. The seat is comfortable. I feel good. I'm about to test the brakes out. So make a turn. And now we're going downhill. I will tell you the bike is very stable. I feel comfortable with it. Very smooth ride. But you know, when you're riding, downhills are easy. It's the uphills that are the issue. We're gonna talk about that a little bit later. Okay. Oh, and here we go down another downhill. You guys know me, if you saw my videos before, I don't go down hills very quickly. And even riding the brakes, which I'm doing, just because I wanna feel comfortable myself, it's a very smooth ride, even with the brakes on. So watch out for traffic. I'm still in gear five, and at this point, I have not needed to use pedal assist yet.

But it's such a comfort knowing that it's there, as I said earlier. So with this bike, there are actually three different options. You can ride manually, which is pretty much what I'm doing, just pedaling. You can use pedal assist, or there's a throttle option, and I'm gonna talk to you about when to use each one of those. So the ergonomics on this bike are really cool. The handlebars are a little bit wider apart, and so my arms are very comfortable, which means I don't have wrist pain, I don't have shoulder pain, I don't have back pain, which, at someone my age, I'm 64, that's all really important. This also allows me, and you could probably hear that it's, you may hear in the microphone that it's windy, so I'm now going to switch over and go into Pedal Assist 1, even though I'm on a flat road, I'm kind of riding into the wind. So what this is going to do is allow me to not exert as much energy as I have been. I like to keep the cadence around 60 to 90 pedals per minute. I think that helps you with your energy level and keeps everything nice and smooth. So the funny thing is, when I started looking into e-bikes and looking at other options, I thought the only time that I would be needing any type of pedal assist or anything like that would be going up and down a hill, but riding into the wind, that helps there too. Okay, now I'm entering a little bit of a downhill, so I no longer need the pedal assist. Really easy to switch gears and also adjust the pedal assist with your thumbs, one on each hand. And again, we're going into a little bit of a downhill now. I'm still in the fifth gear. which is perfect.

It's so nice that this bike has seven gears. Look at us, just cruising. Cruising on the bike. So now we're going back up the hill. So what I'm going to do is enlist in my pedal assist. And I just went to one, and I'll tell you on this bike, pedal-assist one is powerful. I'm still in fifth gear. I don't feel the need to change the gear. In going up the hill, I like to rely a lot on just making little alterations, little adjustments by using pedal assist and also changing the gears and saving the throttle for really steep parts of the hill or you know when you're right at the bottom and you need to get going quickly or you're stuck, that's when I'll use the throttle. But this is a really smooth ride. The combination of pedal assist and being able to have seven different options for gears is really good. This is smooth. Smooth and comfortable. Again, I like to keep the cadence between 60 and 90 just for maximum effort. You don't want to tire yourself out too quickly. So I've got my, I don't know, mechanical, I always call it mechanics, computer here, so I could see how fast I'm going. gives me an indication in terms of where I am with pedal assist. And then again, my gear indicator is on the right. I'm gonna power off the pedal assist for right now because going back to a straight flat, and I no longer need it. Still finding fifth gear to be a good gear for me to stay in, until now, when I turn to go back uphill. So now I'm definitely putting pedal assist on. I'm on pedal assist one. This is a pretty steep hill, so I'm now gonna go into pedal assist two because this is what the e-bike is all about. You don't have to be nervous about being a little bit older and going on a ride where there are hills. Oops. Okay, I'm about ready to take off again. And what I'm gonna do here is I'm gonna use the throttle to get me across the street.

Again, the throttle, I like to use when, I like to use the throttle when you need a quick burst of energy. And something I noticed back there, you may have noticed that I stopped for a second, is that if you have the brakes on and you try to engage the throttle, there's a safety feature that won't allow the throttle to engage. So you can't, that's great. Cause let's say you accidentally hit the throttle button. You don't have to worry that the bike's gonna take off. So now I'm going to walk you through how I tackle hills as a senior. And I'm going to be using and showing you a combination of using the throttle, shifting gears, and pedal assist. And once you use each one of those to optimize the ride. So no need to be afraid, no need to be trepidatious about this. It's a pretty big hill, but let's go for it. So I'm going to start by using the throttle to get going. And I am now in pedal assist one. This is a pretty steep hill, but pedal assist one and fifth gear seem to be working. It's getting a little bit steeper, so I'm going to switch to pedal assist two. And the pedal assist makes you go faster the more you pedal. So I'm feeling a little guilty because I'm exerting zero energy at this point, but that's okay because sometimes I'll avoid rides where I know there's going to be a steep hill, and I just don't know that I'm up for it anymore. But this allows me to get out on the paths that I want to go on. I'm coming to the top of the hill. So I'm now in pedal assist one. And that was so easy. I'm so happy. I feel very accomplished. That was really fun. So now I'm at the top of the hill, and I am going to just take some time to take it in, enjoy the scenery, and be so happy that I made it. You don't have to worry about riding up hills on an e-bike when you're a senior because these bikes make it really easy to do. You guys just saw, there is no way I would have been able to tackle that hill without using a combination of the throttle at the beginning and pedal assist. Like, I would still be three inches down at the bottom at this point.
