This Adaptive E-Trike Changed Everything for Riders w/ Disabilities, Parkinson’s & Cerebral Palsy

An adaptive tricycle that is great for riders with physical challenges like Parkinson's and cerebral palsy.

I have 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry, and today I'm going to show you an adaptive tricycle that is great for riders with physical challenges like parkinson's or cerebral palsy. All right, right here in front of me, I have the Simple Glide e-trike. We have two versions, the 500-watt version and the 750-watt fat tire version. Both of these are amazing e-trikes that are incredibly stable and easy to ride for riders who may have physical challenges and or Parkinson's or cerebral palsy. Now, an adaptive tricycle is something that can adapt to a rider's body so they can get out and ride. I know for a lot of riders with cerebral palsy, Parkinson's, or even severe arthritis, it is very challenging to ride a typical tricycle or even a typical e-trike. Now, a lot of the adapted trikes out there, many of them are lower to the ground. They may have foot straps or leg straps, things that make it easier to pedal. Now, you don't see those pictured on here. That is something that you could add to either of these trikes. But let me explain to you why the Simple Glide in particular is a great option if you're looking for an adaptive tricycle. Now, the first thing that makes this really easy to get on and off is the seat height. Oftentimes with adaptive trikes, the seat height can be too low, which makes it hard to get in and out of. With these, you have the seat height just about right at a chair seat height. So sitting down and getting up is really easy. The other thing, too, is that you can have your legs in a position to get up and down very easily.

Also, you can have the backrest here to press up to get up as well. So, again, you can use this for support. On a typical tricycle, you're not gonna have this big backrest. Which leads me into the next feature, obviously, this high backrest. So if you need that really good body support, so you can ensure that your lower back, your upper back's getting support, you have that here. Also, when you put the armrests down, it keeps the rider very secure in the seat. So there's no risk of falling out. Some riders in some situations may require a seatbelt.

In this case, the armrests actually double as your locking mechanism to keep the rider's body safely on board. Also, you can see from the riding position that I can get my elbows resting on the armrest. So it takes off a lot of that muscle strain. You don't have to stress or strain your body to grab and steer. And in addition to that, I'm going to raise my armrest here to get off. In addition to that, if we move up to the fat tire one, this one also, which is not pictured right now, comes with a footrest. So two options. One, you can leave your feet on the pedals and utilize the throttle, so you actually don't have to pedal at all. So if you're looking for something to get out and enjoy the outdoors, but you want to be able to go faster than, let's say, a mobility bike, scooter, or one of those electric mobility scooters. These can go up to 20 miles an hour, and you don't have to pedal. You can pedal. The benefit of it is that if you want to get that exercise, you can pedal.

And as I said, there are foot straps available that can be connected to these pedals. So the beauty is, is if you don't have a lot of leg strength or one leg works better than the other, you can strap your feet in, utilize the throttle and still move your feet, but rely mostly on the throttle, but still keep your legs moving, the blood flowing, and get as much out of the pedal experience as you are physically capable of having. And we've had many riders with cerebral palsy by the Simple Glide, Parkinson's, some don't pedal at all, some do a combination of both, and some pedal a lot. Really depends on where you're at with your body, and what you're capable of. Now let me bring myself back to the point I was making about the fat tire, which actually comes with a footrest that will normally fall right here. So if you're not going to pedal and you want to just rest your feet on the footrest, you can do that as well. So this can really become your mobility device, your transportation device, with the option of being able to get exercise. So you have those five levels of assistance. don't have to use the throttle to get the assistance as well. When you pedal, the assistance will kick in, and you have five levels. One, two, three, four, five. Five gives you the most, one gives you the least. So if you still have muscle strength, leg strength, and you still are able to use your body, you can keep it in a low level of assistance and get more of a workout. And if you want to still move your legs but get less of a workout, then you can move it up in assistance levels up to level five. Now you can get a range on of up to 50 miles. Depends on how you use the electricity. Also, the weight of the rider will have a very large impact. In addition to that, you can hit speeds of 20 miles an hour. As I said, you have front and rear disc brakes, which stop quickly and effectively. You also have seven gears on here that shift just like they would on a standard bicycle. They work in conjunction with the pedal assist.

And lastly, I want to point out that the seat does move forward and backward, and the handlebars are very easily adjustable, where you flip this up right here, and you can tilt the handlebars in the way that best suits your body, and you just clamp that down to first find the perfect ride. So the Simple Glide is a new take on an adaptive tricycle e-trike that can accommodate lots of different riders. So if you're looking either for yourself or someone you know who wants to get out, wants to exercise, wants to be out and be mobile, but doesn't like the current options, the Simple Glide may be the right choice.
