The Absolute Best E Bike for Seniors | Electric Bike for Seniors You Must See

I'm Dustin, and today I'm going to show you the best e-bike for seniors.

All right, so today I have the Sixthreezero Simple Step-through which I believe to be the best e-bike for seniors. And I'm going to walk you through why.

Now let me get into the electronics of it and the braking. Another thing that is important is safety for seniors riding e-bikes. We have the front and the rear disc brakes, which are going to stop very easily on a dime actually, or you can ease into them if you so choose, the front and the rear. But they're going to provide ample stopping power as you're out riding.

Low Step Through Electric Bike

So a lot of senior riders I know one of the important factors is an easy mounting and dismounting of the bike. Our simple step-through e-bike has what I believe to be the lowest possible step-through of e-bikes on the market. And I'm going to show you, this e-bike has a step-through height of 10 and a half inches.

Now, this makes it super easy to just step on and off mounting and dismounting. We've done a lot of test riding here, and the reason we develop this particular e-bike is that we see how important that element is to a lot of our senior riders. They want to be able to step through and get on very easily. From here, then you can slide onto the seat. It just creates a safer, again, stable, easy-to-ride e-bike. The beginning, ending, starting and stopping are usually points of bike rides for seniors that can create difficulty. When it's challenging for seniors to get their feet down on the ground or for them to get their leg over the top tube, falling over can occur. That's why the Simple Step Through is designed in a way that makes it easy to sit down and also easy for riders to get their leg over the top tube. Being able to easily get one and off gives confidence to riders and it's one last thing to have to worry about. In addition to that, there are some other elements that make this e-bike great for seniors.

Ergonomic Riding Position

One of them that you just may have noticed is its ergonomics of it. So as I step on, we've created a riding position that puts the rider in a perfect ergonomic riding position. Arms are relaxed. The handlebars curve into your body, which means you don't have to reach or stretch, which is going to eliminate a lot of that tension in the upper back. In addition, your back's going to be totally upright, so you're not going to have to hold yourself here, with no tension in your lower back. And the goal of this entire design was really to alleviate the post-ride pain. We want to make sure our riders can enjoy the ride, especially because you're choosing an e-bike, which means you want to have the bike do some level of work.

You don't want to get off and feel pain in places you shouldn't feel pain in. So the goal of the ergonomic riding position has put the rider in the most comfortable position possible, and keep them relaxed so they can enjoy an hour, two-hour, three-hour, or four-hour ride without getting off and having that pain the next day. In addition, you have a nice comfort saddle, a wide bucket saddle. Again, it's going to be great for longer rides, comfort your rear, and it's just going to overall again, not leaving pain after the ride.

Many ebikes require the rider to slightly lean forward extending forward to have to reach the handlebars. This is not good for senior riders because it places too much tension on the low back and upper arms. Ensuring the back is upright, and the arms are relaxed will ensure an enjoyable ride.

The Electronics on an EBike

Now, getting into the electronics, another thing I notice with a lot of senior riders, and we have other videos on our YouTube channel, you can check out, that they're riding e-bikes for the first time and they feel the kick-in of the pedal assist for that first time, or they feel the motor of the throttle. And sometimes it catches them off guard. Now there are different motor sizes that exist out there from 250 watts to 750 watts. We've determined that we believe 500 watts is really the ideal motor size for senior riders because 750 watts is going to be way too much power. It's really when you feel that jolt from a pedal assist or the throttle, it is going to be alarming. And again, check out the videos. And you can even see the reaction With 500 watts, it's still a good kick. But the reason you do want 500 watts of power is that if you're going up hills, you're going to need that extra motor to get you up a hill.

But in a lot of situations, 750 watts is going to be too much power. Now, if you are over 300 pounds and you're going to be doing a lot of uphill riding, then 750 watts may be something I would recommend. But generally speaking, 500 watts for senior riders, even if you're going to do flat ground and you're 300 pounds, I'd still stick to 500 watts because I've seen this. We have other videos as well with riders from 250 to 400 pounds, and you can see how the 500 watts perform. Check out our YouTube channel if you want to see that. But I truly believe getting over 500 watts becomes very dangerous. Especially with that pedal assist, it kicks on. If you're not prepared for it, it can be alarming. It can cause people to crash. I've seen it happen before, you also hear about it a lot more.

So sometimes with cars, people just buy extra power because they think it's something they need when they really don't. I truly would recommend no more than 500 watts for senior riders. It's going to do everything you want to do. But if have questions or you think it may not be, you can also contact us or comment below, we'd be happy to answer them. But yeah, 500 watts for power. Even for me, I'm 215 pounds, it's still going to get me up to top speeds of 20 miles an hour with just the throttle. So just the throttle, 500 watts, I can go 20 miles an hour. If you've never hit 20 miles an hour on an e-bike or a regular bike, that feels like you're going very fast because it's just this bike, you, and the road. And for someone that may be used to going 30 or 40 on a road bike, then it might not feel fast to you.

We've actually don't nearly a hundred test rides with senior riders and we find that most find 500 watts of power to be enough. In fact, many are very surprised by how powerful 500 watts is. This why most seniors prefer to use their ebike in a lower power setting, usually no higher than level three.

Pedal Assist & Throttle for Senior Riders

The Simple Step Through comes with five levels of pedal assist, one giving the least amount of assistance and five giving the most. On hills some senior riders will want to be in level five pedal assist to help make the trip up the hill easier. On the flat ground though on the Simple Step Thru staying in level three or below will be just fine. You can also choose to not use the electric assist at all and if you'd like you can just pedal without the motor. It's a great benefit because you can decide how much or how little effort you want to put into your ride.

The Simple Step Thru also has a throttle, that is located by the riders thumb. As you press it, the ebike will accelerate. The harder you press the faster you go, just like a gas pedal on a car. The throttle is an amazing feature because if you want to take a break from pedaling you can. Simply press the throttle and let the motor do all of the work. It can allow you to rest your legs on rides and enjoy the breeze. When you are ready to start pedaling again you can let off the throttle and start moving your legs again. The ability to switch between both modes is really great. This is why the Simple Step through is increasing the frequency or length of rides that seniors are doing. Having the motor means riders don't have to stress about having the energy to get them home on rides.

But I think to the average rider, 20 miles an hour is going to feel quite fast. So I truly believe the low step-through the ergonomic position and also the 500 watts of power make the simple step-through a great e-bike for seniors.
