The 3 Best Electric Bikes for Seniors You Must See! 2023 | Ebikes for Riders Over 60 & 70

Hey guys, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the e-bike and bike industry, and today I have our senior riders, over 60 and over 70, and I'm going to show you the 2023 best electric bikes for seniors. Stick around.

Okay, so today we're going to show you the 2023 best electric bikes for seniors over 60 and 70. I have my riders here, Harry, who's 69, and Mama Shar, who's 71, step out of the way here. And we've got our three e-bikes back here that are the 2023 best options for senior riders. I have the Simple Step-Thru, Sixthreezero Simple Step-Thru e-bike, the EVRYjourney e-bike, and also the EVRYjourney electric tricycle.

Now we have the electric tricycle in the mix in particular because there are a lot of riders out there that get to be 50, 60, 70, or you just have balance issues throughout your life and you're not comfortable on two wheels, so that's why I think it's important to include a tricycle in the 2023 lineup of best electric bikes. And we're going to have some demos here by our riders. So Harry's going to demo our two-wheel e-bikes, and Mama Shar will demo our tricycle.

So let's get right into it. And by the way, Harry, before today had only ridden an electric bike once, very little, and today was his second time and he was up and running with no problem. So first e-bike, and let's go ahead and bring it. We'll wheel it up here. Okay, and you want to grab your helmet. Okay, so on the Simple Step-Thru, great options for senior riders because of this low step-through frame. And, Mama Shar, if you want to come over here-

Mama Shar: Absolutely.

Dustin: Now she's not comfortable on two wheels, which is fine. But one thing I want to show, now you mentioned you have a little bit of a knee condition.

Mama Shar: I do, I do. I have a little knee lock.

Dustin: Okay, a little knee lock. And that's your right knee or left knee?

Mama Shar: My right knee.

Dustin: So I want to show how easy it is on this. If you just want to show them how you can get on and off.

Mama Shar: Absolutely. This one was like butter, like that.

Dustin: So she can just step her foot right through there and she can easily get on and off, so that's easy for her to mount and dismount. And actually, she had some struggles to get that knee to turn the pedal around. But you can see the mounting and dismounting is simple with this frame set-up because I think some younger riders like to do this. Harry, you did that as well.

Now, if you have the athleticism, obviously that's a great way, but having this step-through is so simple and quite a bit safer to get on and off because you're not risking kicking the bike over, tipping the bike over. And also, when you're tired and getting off the bike, it's a little bit easier just to pull your leg off. So let me adjust the seat for you, Harry, probably a little higher like this. Okay. So if you want to go ahead and get on and we'll just show them. Does that seem about the right height, a little higher maybe?

Harry: No, no, no, that's okay. Yes, this way. That's good to go.

Dustin: I think it's-

Harry: Really?

Dustin: Yeah.

Harry: I'm lining up there.

Dustin: Probably right about there?

Harry: Yeah. Okay.

Dustin: Is that good?

Harry: Yeah.

Dustin: Okay, go ahead and get on.

Harry: Yep.

Dustin: So you can see how easily he mounts. Now, there's also a little bit of a forward-pedaling design. So the pedals are moved forward so he can be a little lower to the ground, and still get ample leg extension. You can also see the perfect ergonomic upright riding position he has. Now, the other benefit is we have four custom adjustment points on all Sixthreezero e-bikes, with the Simple Step-Thru too, you can tilt the handlebars, you can raise and lower the handlebars, you can tilt the seat, you can raise and lower the seat to dial it in specifically to your body type, what's safest for you, what's best for you as a rider.

So how does that feel, comfort level-wise? Do you need anything adjusted, you think?

Harry: That seems fine.

Dustin: Yeah?

Harry: Seems fine.

Dustin: Now, getting to the e-bike components, this is a seven-speed bike, so there are seven gears. Those are just like the normal gears of a bicycle. You can ride this like a normal bicycle. It also has a pedal assist and a full throttle. So five levels of pedal assist, you can go up to 28 miles an hour. It's going to be great for going up and down hills. The throttle will take you up to 20 miles an hour. So no pedaling at all, you can go up to 20 miles an hour. In addition to that, your range. So the range is going to be anywhere from 20 to 50 miles. It's a big range because the range depends on the weight of the rider, it also depends on the terrain, the conditions, where you're riding, and also depends a lot on if you're using pedal assist or throttle or if you're riding the bike normally.

If you're using the throttle most of the time, the battery's going to drain quicker. If you're using pedal assist, then you're going to get more length out of that battery. Also, depends on the assistance level you use. If you're using pedal assistance one, you're going to go farther, if you're using five, you're going to drain that bike quite a bit quicker. So also front-rear disc brakes for easy stopping, which going to provide ample stopping power up to speeds of 28 miles an hour. The discs are much more powerful than the standard V brakes and things like that.

So again, the huge benefit of this is the easy mounting and dismounting, the forward pedaling design. And of course, you're going to get all the range, all the speed that you need, and the pedal assistance levels. It's great for senior riders too to have the pedal assistance or be able to ride it as a regular bike, because if you still want to get exercise and not use the assistance, you can ride it like a regular bike. So I think what I want to do first is if you can just take a lap and ride it like a regular bike and just kind of... We can just see how easy it is.

Harry: Sure.

Dustin: And then we'll show them what it's like with the motor on.

Harry: Sure.

Dustin: Go for it. So you can see now there's no pedal assist on, there's nothing. And he's riding very easily. Look at his back and his arms, super relaxed, he's in an ergonomic position. I mean, does that feel difficult to pedal?

Harry: No, not at all.

Dustin: And that's kind of the beauty of the Sixthreezero bikes, is we've kept them in the same sort of shape as a traditional bicycle, so you can ride them easily. Some e-bikes now have smaller wheels. They're not going to be able to ride very easily like a regular bike, even if you have fatter tires, there's going to be a lot of drag.

Okay, so now go ahead, you can just turn on the motor and just take a lap. You can use the throttle, use the assistance, and do whatever you see fit. There you go. You can see he's using the throttle to get going, which is a great option. And then he can ease into the pedaling, he can do whatever is best for him. And that's the beauty of the e-bike you decide how you want to ride that day. How's that feel?

Harry:

It's great. Nice and smooth.

Dustin:

Perfect. So that's a Simple Step-Thru, Sixthreezero Simple Step-Thru e-bike, a great option if you have knee conditions, or hip conditions and mounting and dismounting is something that's challenging for you, or if you just want something safer that's easier to get on and off, this is a great option. It's also going to allow you to get exercise and pedal and ride it like a normal bike. So that's option number one.

Let's move on to the next one. So if you want to go ahead and get off. Okay, perfect. And I'll go ahead and wheel out our next option. Now, moving into our EVRYjourney e-bike, this has another step-through frame but not as low as the Simple Step-Thru. What this one does have is an, even more, accentuated forward-pedaling design. So the premise is the same as the easy boarding, but even more forward pedaling, go ahead and hop on, Harry.

And so, you can see the pedals are shifted forward about five inches. That's going to allow the seat to be even lower to the ground. So if he needs to stop and put his feet down, he can have his feet flat on the ground while still getting great leg extension when riding. So that's a huge benefit to the EVRYjourney. In addition to that, it's got a nice, sleek frame, a lot of the same features as a Simple Step-Thru, a 500-watt motor, 10.4 amp power battery. The range is going to be the same, 20 to 50 miles. Top speeds are the same, 20 to 28 miles an hour. The riding position's a little bit different, but you can see still ergonomic upright riding position. Do these two bikes feel similar to you?

Harry: I'm trying to say. They're both comfortable. This one seems to be a little more comfortable maybe because it's adjusted.

Dustin: Adjusted more to your body, yeah. You can see through Harry sits a little bit lower on this one with the seat higher, if you could tell on that Simple Step-Thru, he was a little more upright to get the leg extension because the pedals aren't quite as forward as the EVRYjourney. So both are great options, just a little bit different seating positions.

So if you want to go ahead and just take another crew, you can just see the mechanics and everything is the same. Again, you have your throttle on the left thumb, you have your pedal assist. So if you're looking for something that's comfort-based, safety based, and easy to get on and off, Simple Step-Thru, and EVRYjourney are great options for riders over 60 and 70 years old, because again, you can dial it into your body and still be safe. And I think safety is a big, big issue for riders as we get older.

Harry: And I didn't crash.

Dustin: How's that feel?

Harry: It was great-

Dustin: [inaudible 00:09:55] took this one around a little bit. Did you like it?

Harry: Yes. Yes.

Dustin: Cool.

Harry: Very good.

Dustin: All right, now let's move on to our last 2023 best electric bike for seniors over 60. Mama Shar, last but not least, let's go ahead and wheel up our EVRYjourney electric tricycle. Now, Mama Shar had never ridden a bicycle period today, not even a tricycle. And we are trying to teach her from zero to 60 how to get up and ride on an e-bike. She was there, but she felt more comfortable on the tricycle, which is why this is a great option in 2023 for seniors over 60 and 70. Let's go ahead and get you a microphone here.

And so, this is the EVRYjourney frame. Again, it has the same forward-pedaling design and you can get the leg extension when you get on. Now, the tricycle is 15 miles an hour at top speed. The range is going to be anywhere from 15 miles to, it could be 50 miles. We have another video where we rode this and I got over 20 miles just by using the throttle. So again, the conditions, the terrain, what kind of hills you're going up and down, all of those things are going to affect the range you're going to get out of it. Top speeds on a tricycle, we regulate them to be a little bit lower for safety.

This has a 250-watt front hub motor, which is going to be more than enough power, especially for our senior riders. You don't need to be flying around turns and doing things like that. We've also done videos on this of riders up to 400 pounds and the 250 watts is enough to power them. So Mama Shar, if you want to hop in and then also give us your thoughts on this one you rode. What did you like about it? What is easy about it?

Mama Shar: All right. This one doesn't require balance. All right? And on the two wheels, I defeated myself about balance, right? So when I got on this one, it reminds me of a scooter, a motorized scooter. You have stability here. I mean, I can feel the support here, so I don't fear the balance issue. So I enjoyed it. I think it's a great ride. I would do this one for sure.

Dustin: Perfect.

Mama Shar: For sure.

Dustin: The other thing too is Mama Shar has a little bit of a knee condition, and she has some struggles getting the pedals turned over. Now, the beauty is with the pedal assist and the throttle, she can ride this very easily. So the beauty is this tricycle is adaptable to your ability and what you need to do. So you can either ride it, you can use the throttle, again, this can be a mode of transportation, however, you see fit. Let the bike do the work or you do the work or the trike for this matter. So you want to just do a little loop around here and show everyone?

Mama Shar: Absolutely.

Dustin: And again, never been on a tricycle even before today. So she picked this up, no problem.

Mama Shar: No, this one was good. All right. I mean, just effortless, just awesome. I don't feel scared. I don't feel apprehensive. Yeah. Yeah, I like this one. I like this one a lot.

Dustin: That's your style.

Mama Shar: Yeah, I like this one.

Dustin: Perfect. So you can see if you are just lacking that little bit of confidence on two wheels, this system can just make you confident and you can still accomplish the same things on three wheels you can on two wheels, especially by having the electric. It just makes it so much simpler and easier.

Mama Shar: Awesome.

Dustin: So that's why the Sixthreezero EVRYjourney electric makes it into one of our three best electric bikes in 2023 for seniors. So that sums it up.
