Simple Step-Thru 500W Deluxe Ebike Assembly Guide

This guide details the assembly and features of the new Simple Step-Thru Deluxe Ebike.

Before You Begin

The ebike will arrive in a box approximately 61 inches long, 35 inches tall, and 9 inches wide, weighing around 80 pounds. Handles are provided for dragging the box. If you cannot lift it, ask the delivery person to place it as close to your garage as possible.

Caution: Staples are present at the top of the box. Carefully remove them to avoid scratching yourself during assembly.

Unpacking

  1. Remove Top Packaging: Open the box and remove all internal packaging material.
  2. Locate Components: Identify the front wheel, and a separate box containing pedals, charger, and other items. Set these aside.
  3. Snip Zip Ties: Carefully snip all visible zip ties securing components. Use tin snips or sharp scissors. If using a box cutter, cut away from the frame to prevent scratches.
  4. Remove Front Fender: Locate and set aside the front fender.
  5. Remove the Bike from the Box:
  • Option 1 (Two People): Lift the bike straight out of the box.
  • Option 2 (One Person): Use a box cutter to make a slit along the seam of the box. This allows you to wheel the bike out on its rear wheel.

6.Check for Loose Screws: Inspect the box interior to ensure no screws have come loose.

7.Retrieve Assembly Instructions: Locate the assembly instructions and set them aside.

8.Remove Seat: Locate box number four, which contains the seat, and set it aside.

9.Remove Front Tire: The front tire is interwoven into the crank. Remove all remaining zip ties securing it, and carefully slide it off.

10.Remove Remaining Zip Ties: Continue removing all zip ties from the bike frame and components.

11.Protect Display: The display is tucked into packaging for protection. Leave this packaging on for now.

12.Remove Seat Post: The seat post is zip-tied to the frame. Cut the zip ties and set it aside.

Assembly Steps

1. Install the Front Wheel

  1. Position the Bike: Tilt the bike upright and lean it on the ground, or use a bike stand if available.
  2. Remove Fork Protector: Locate the black bar in the axle. This is a protector for the fork, secured by a 12mm bolt. Loosen the bolt to remove the protector and discard it.
  3. Orient the Fork: Ensure the fork is turned forward. There is a sticker indicating the forward direction.
  4. Prepare the Wheel: Remove any plastic packaging from the front wheel. The wheel has a washer and a nut on either side. You can remove them or leave them partially on to create room for the fork.
  5. Attach the Wheel: Align the wheel with the fork eyelets and slide the axle into place. Ensure the brake rotor fits inside the two brake pads of the caliper.
  6. Deploy Kickstand: Once the wheel is in place, deploy the kickstand for stability.
  7. Hand-Tighten Axle Nuts: Hand-tighten the axle nuts on both sides to secure the wheel loosely. Final tightening will occur later.

2. Install the Handlebars

  1. Access Hardware: Open the box containing tools, pedals, extra hardware, and a cap.
  2. Attach Handlebar Cap: Place the cap on the top of the handlebars.
  3. Remove Packaging: Remove any remaining packaging around the handlebar stem.
  4. Insert Handlebars: Insert the handlebar stem, ensuring it faces outwards and the cables are positioned in front of the handlebars. The screen will dangle for now.

3. Install the Front Fender

  1. Remove Packaging: Remove all packaging from the front fender.
  2. Remove Bolt: Loosen and remove the bolt that will secure the fender to the front fork. You will need a 10mm wrench and a 5mm Allen key from the toolkit.
  3. Attach Headlight: Position the headlight and secure it with the bolt you just removed.
  4. Position Fender: Twist the fender to slide it into place. Ensure the fender struts are on the outside of the fork to prevent interference with the wheel.
  5. Secure Fender: Attach the washer and nut to the back of the bolt.
  6. Adjust Fender Height: Important: Before fully tightening, mount the fender as high as the tab allows. Hold it in this raised position while tightening the front bolt.
  7. Attach Fender Struts: Use an Allen key to loosen the bolt on the frame. Pull the strut down, insert the screw through the strut's eyelet, and tighten firmly. Repeat for the other side.

4. Finalize Front Wheel Installation

  1. Tighten Axle Nuts: Use a 15mm wrench (from the toolkit) to fully tighten the axle nuts on both sides of the front wheel. These bolts are critical and should be cranked until they are very tight.

5. Install the Pedals

  1. Identify Pedals: Pedals are marked with 'L' (left) and 'R' (right) on the inside.
  2. Install Left Pedal: The left pedal is reverse-threaded, meaning it tightens by turning it to the left.
  3. Install Right Pedal: The right pedal tightens by turning it to the right (clockwise).
  4. Tighten Pedals: Use a 15mm wrench (or a special pedal wrench if available) to firmly tighten both pedals. They should be cranked down as much as possible. This design ensures they self-tighten during pedaling.

6. Adjust Handlebars

  1. Straighten Stem: Position the tire between your legs and align the handlebar stem evenly with the frame. Tighten the top bolt on the stem to secure its straight alignment.
  2. Adjust Handlebar Height: The handlebar height can be adjusted up or down. Find a comfortable height, but note that this can be adjusted further after a few rides.
  3. Adjust Handlebar Angle: Loosen the bolt for the handlebar angle. Adjust the angle to your preference and tighten it firmly to prevent slipping during rides.

7. Install the Display

  1. Remove Packaging: Carefully remove the protective packaging from the display.
  2. Mount Display: The display mounts in the middle of the handlebars. Loosen the bolts on the display mount.
  3. Secure Display: Slip the display mount onto the handlebars. The back of the mount is shaped to lock the nut in place, eliminating the need for a wrench.
  4. Adjust Angle: While not fully tight, adjust the display to a comfortable viewing angle.
  5. Tighten Bolts: Tighten the bolts securely to fix the display in place.

8. Install the Seat

  1. Pre-Adjust Seat Angle: Before inserting the seat post, line up the seat and tighten the two nuts on either side equally. This prevents the seat from tilting backward during rides. Tighten until it is very difficult to tighten further.
  2. Insert Seat Post: Insert the seat post into the frame.
  3. Adjust Seat Height: Find a comfortable seat height.
  4. Secure Quick Release: Tighten the quick release knob until you can no longer hand-tighten it. This increases clamping force.
  5. Align and Clamp: Align the nose of the seat with the frame and use the palm of your hand to clamp the quick release lever down firmly.

Post-Assembly and Features

1. Tire Pressure:

  • Inflate tires to the recommended PSI, found on the side of the tire (typically 40 to 65 PSI). This can be done at a gas station or at home.

2. Gears and Brakes:

  • Seven-Speed Derailleur: The derailleur should be pre-tuned from the factory. If gears slip or you cannot access all gears, refer to a video on how to tune a seven-speed derailleur.
  • Disc Brakes: Brakes should be pre-tuned. If they do not grip effectively:
  • Expert Adjustment: It is recommended to have an expert adjust the brakes.
  • Self-Adjustment: If confident, refer to videos on adjusting disc brakes.
  • Pad Wear: Brake pads wear down over time (can take a year or two depending on riding habits). Worn pads reduce responsiveness. You can pull cables tighter to increase stopping power. Replacement pads are inexpensive (under $10-$10 a pair).
  • Safety: If brakes feel "soft" or unresponsive, ensure they are checked or adjusted by a confident individual.

3. Battery and Display Operation:

  • Keys: Keys are used to lock/unlock the battery, allowing for removal. They do not turn the ebike on/off.
  • Charging Port: The charging port is located on the battery. You can charge the battery on or off the bike.
  • Battery Switch: A switch under the battery must be turned "on" for the ebike to power on. Turn it off
