Simple Glide Recumbent E-Trike: Comparing the 500-watt to the 750-watt, Which is Right for You?

Comparing the Simple Glide 500-watt to the new Fat Tire 750-watt. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today we're going to be comparing our Simple Glide 500-watt recumbent e-trike to our brand new Fat Tire 750-watt recumbent e-trike. All right, I've got our Simple Glide recumbent e trike 500 watt, as well as the fat tire 750-watt, Now, if you've never seen either of these two recumbent e-trikes, this is one of the most comfortable recumbent e-trikes. You've got these high-backed seats here with the armrests for maximum comfort and easy mounting and dismounting. You can see the armrests come up and down. They are also very safe because of these elongated frames, they're extremely balanced, okay, so let's get into comparing both of these and talk to you about the difference between these two models. So the biggest difference is the 750 watts of power on the fat tire versus the 500 watts of power on the original Simple Glide 500.

The other thing is that this one is currently or is now a rear-mounted motor. This one is a front hub motor. Now, one thing I want to point out is if you're doing mainly flat ground riding and you don't need 750 watts of power for flat ground riding, unless you want to travel at 20 miles an hour all the time, then maybe you want to consider 750 watts. But 500 watts is going to be able to get you equally as fast. It's more of the torque you would get on the hills. But one thing I wanna point out, having ridden both of these, is that with the fat tire, you do have more drag. So it does require more power to push this trike because of its weight. Now, the weight difference is only about four pounds. So the fat tire weighs 96 pounds, and the regular tire weighs 92 pounds. But the amount of rubber on the road does create significant drag. So you do need that 750 watts of power to turn these wheels. I mean, if you look at it, we've got a 2.125-inch tire versus a four-inch tire, so it's double the size. Now, with that doubling of the size, you do get an increase in stability. Now, this trike is already one of the most stable on the market because of this elongated frame in wheelbase.

It gives a very stable base. Also, with the low center of gravity of the seat here, a lot of the other trikes are more compact and taller. That creates a little bit more risk for tipping. But because of the elongated frame and the low center of gravity, it's very stable. Now, if you want to increase that stability even more, you put four-inch tires on it like we did, and this baby is stable. You can corner extremely fast. You also have the rear differential on both of these. So that's a similarity which does help with the traction when you're turning or on slick ground, wet ground, or loose gravel or dirt as well. Battery sizes are the same. The 15-amp-hour color display is on both disc brakes. Now you're seeing the seat difference. We've changed the seat now the the new Simple Glide, we are going to change to this seat at some point as well. So with the new seat, you get a lumbar support back here. You get a little bit of a higher armrest, which we like, so you can rest your elbows here while still reaching the handlebars to steer.

They still flip up and down, so you can get on and off very easily. Now, the other cool feature about this fat tire one is that the frame is foldable. Now, you still have the seat here. You can remove the back if you want to transport it, but you can fold the frame in half and fold the handlebars down. On the original one, you can just fold the handlebars down. So if you want the ability to fold the frame right here for easy storage or to make it more compact to store in a truck or an SUV, or an RV, that option is there. It's awesome as well. If you want to see a video of me doing that as well, you can see it on our YouTube channel or visit our website. OK, now the last really cool feature is this footrest right here, and it transforms the Simple Glide into more than just a trike. It is now a mobility device. Now, having your feet on the pedals is a comfortable position, don't get me wrong.

But if you want to just kind of get your feet up right here and sit in more of a desk chair position, Upright. Look, you can get your elbows on the armrests, and you can steer. Very comfortable. Turns this into a mobility device that you can drive around communities, go run your errands, and do what you want. All you have to do is twist the throttle here. Cool. And you can very easily, even while you're moving, flip this up and just start pedaling again. So, a nice bonus feature if you're someone who likes to utilize the throttle and you want to rest your legs, you've got that there. So, big difference, the fatter tires, the newer seat, the foldability, and also the footrest are the differences. Oh, and the bigger, of course, rear-mounted motor. The major differences between this and the original Simple Glide make it a great option.
