This guide provides instructions for assembling the Simple Glide Fat Tire 750-watt e-trike and highlights its key features.
Unboxing and Initial Preparation
The Simple Glide e-trike arrives in a large box, weighing approximately 100 pounds. Choose your assembly location (e.g., driveway, garage) before unpacking.
Open the Box: Carefully flip open the lid. Be cautious of large staples inside the box, which can be removed to prevent scratches.
Remove Zip Ties: Use snips, sharp scissors, or a box cutter to cut all zip ties securing components. Exercise extreme caution when using a box cutter to avoid damaging the e-trike.
Remove Loose Components: Set aside the seat bottom, seat back, and basket.
Prepare for Removal: The e-trike frame is folded in half for shipping. To easily remove it, use a box cutter to cut along the seam of the double-layered box, creating an opening. This method also allows for potential re-taping if the box is needed.
Extract the E-Trike: Pull the e-trike out of the box, starting with the front wheel. Leave any remaining packaging on the frame for protection during assembly.
Handlebar Installation
Position Handlebars: Insert the handlebars into the stem. Align the indentation on the handlebars with the notch inside the stem. Slide the handlebars down until the notch engages.
Tilt and Lock: Tilt the handlebars into position and lock the quick-release lever.
Adjust Stem: If the stem is slipping, tighten the Allen key bolt located in the hole on the stem using a 5mm Allen key. Loosen if too tight.
Align Fork: Ensure the fork is facing forward and the light is facing forward.
Frame Unfolding and Locking
Unlock Mechanism: Locate the quick-release mechanism on the frame. Lift up to unlock it.
Unfold and Clamp: Unfold the frame and clamp the quick-release lever to lock the frame securely in place.
Front Wheel Installation
Remove Packaging: Remove all packaging from the front wheel.
Remove Washers: Take off both washers (one with a notch, one standard).
Install Rotor: Position the rotor on the same side as the brake caliper. Lift the front end of the e-trike and slide the rotor between the brake pads.
Attach Washers and Nut: Place the washer with the notch first, inserting it into the small hole on the fork. Then, add the standard washer and the nut. Repeat on the other side.
Tighten Nut: Use a 15mm wrench to tighten the nut until it is secure.
Seat Installation
Access Hardware: Locate the bag with hardware on the seat support. This bag contains four shorter bolts and four longer bolts.
Mount Seat to Rails (Shorter Bolts):
Slide the seat rails all the way forward by twisting down the guide.
Position the seat with the narrower side to the back.
Align the two front holes on the seat with the holes on the sliding bracket.
Push up to the bracket and insert the short bolts, threading them loosely. Do not fully tighten yet.
Mount Seat to Rails (Continued - Longer Bolts):
Pull the seat guide down and slide the seat all the way back.
Align the holes on the seat with the holes on the rails.
Insert the remaining longer bolts, threading them loosely.
Once all bolts are threaded, go back and tighten all eight bolts securely.
Backrest Installation
Position for Installation: If working alone, lay the e-trike on its side or against a mat to access the underside of the seat.
Slide Seat Back: Slide the seat all the way back to align the holes for the backrest.
Install Bolts: Insert the bolts through the holes on the backrest and into the corresponding holes under the seat. Thread them loosely at first to allow for adjustment.
Tighten All Bolts: Once all bolts are in place, tighten them securely.
Basket Installation
Remove Charger: The charger is zip-tied inside the basket; remove it and set it aside.
Remove Bolts: Use a 4mm Allen key to remove the four bolts located where the basket will mount.
Position Basket: Ensure sufficient clearance for the light. Rest the second metal bracket of the basket against the bottom of the existing bracket.
Install Bolts: Insert all four bolts loosely before tightening.
Tighten All Bolts: Once all bolts are loosely in place, go back and tighten them securely.
Key Features and Operation
Tire Pressure: The maximum PSI for the tires is 20 PSI, as indicated on the tire sidewall.
Pedaling and Backrest: When pedaling, ensure the backrest is lifted to prevent hitting pedals on the footrest.
Seat Adjustment: To move the seat forward or backward, turn the guide down, slide the seat, and then lock it back into place. The armrests can be moved up and down; the seat does not tilt.
Powering On:
Press and hold the button on the battery until it illuminates blue or green.
Press and hold the power button on the display until it illuminates.
Battery Removal and Charging: The keys are used only for battery removal, not for turning it on or off. The battery can be charged on or off the e-trike by plugging the charger into the port and then a standard outlet. Keep the charging port closed when not in use.
Brakes:
Rear brake lights illuminate when brakes are engaged.
The parking brake is engaged by pushing down the lever on each caliper.
Display and Controls:
Assist Levels: Use the plus and minus buttons to adjust pedal assist levels (1-5). The display shows battery life, speed, and odometer.
Gears: Shift through seven gears by pressing the up and down buttons. Higher assist levels typically correspond to higher gears.
Throttle: The twist throttle requires at least pedal assist one to function. Twist it towards you to accelerate.
Kill Switch: The kill switch, when popped out, disables the throttle as a safety feature.
Lights: Press and hold the plus button to turn on the front light. A light symbol will appear on the display. Press and release to turn it off.
Stem Adjustment:
The quick-release stem allows for position adjustment.
To tighten a slipping stem, use a 5mm Allen key in the designated hole. Loosen if too stiff.
The stem can also be raised and lowered for optimal riding position.
Connection Check: If the e-bike does not turn on or has display issues, check all connections located near the handlebars to ensure they are properly connected and tightened.
Parking Brake Error: Engaging the parking brake may trigger an error message on the display, as the electric assist and throttle will not work when brakes are engaged.
Folding: The stem and frame can be folded in half for storage or transport.
Footrest Removal: The footrest can be removed by unscrewing three bolts with an Allen key if your heel hits it, especially for riders with larger shoe sizes.
Brake and Gear Tuning: Brakes and gears are pre-tuned from the factory. If adjustments are needed, professional tuning is recommended. Brake pads may need replacement over time, which can be done at home with online tutorials or by a professional.
