Should seniors choose a two, three, or four-wheel e-bike? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today, we're gonna answer the question, should seniors choose a two, three, or four-wheel e-bike? Right here, I've got the EVRYjourney e-bike from Sixthreezero, the Simple Glide 750-watt, and the AnyTerrain Stabilized four-wheel e-bike. Now, if you are shopping for an electric bike and you're wondering which one should choose, a two-wheel, three-wheel four-wheel, I'm going to give you some tips. Now, the thing is that it's really up to your physical ability and what you're capable of. If you're somebody who cannot balance on a two-wheel bike, then obviously you should opt for either a three-wheel or a four-wheel e-bike. But if you're someone who still wants or still can balance, and you want to get exercise, then maybe a two-wheel e-bike is right for you. Now, obviously, with a two-wheel electric bike, you've got to have that balance right, you've got to be able to sit on there and balance.
If you are a senior looking at a two-wheel e-bike, my only suggestion is to get something easy to mount and dismount with a swooping lower top tube that makes it easy to get on and off. Many of these electric bikes out there don't have a low enough tube that makes the on and off very simple and easy. And many times, that is the point of frustration for a lot of seniors is the difficulty getting on and off. But once you're on, riding is simple, safe, and easy. Also, if you're opting for a two-wheel e-bike, make sure you get the right amount of power, right? You don't necessarily need something too powerful. If you are a heavier rider, like over 200 pounds, then you may want 750 watts, but 500 watts is good for, I would say, a big percentage of riders, especially for our senior riders, because having too much power can create more danger should something happen where you accidentally hit the throttle, things like that.
So, also, two-wheel e-bikes are great if you also want to pedal, because on an e-bike, you can pedal like a normal bike. So, if you wanna keep riding but you just want some assistance from the motor, it's a great option. Now, you can do that on a three-wheel and a four-wheel e-bike as well, but it's gonna be much easier, well, I shouldn't say that. It'll be much easier to pedal a two-wheel e-bike without the motor than it would be on a three-wheel or four-wheel e-bike. Now, if you're using the assistance, all three are gonna be about equal in terms of how hard they are to pedal, right? Because you're going to have the assistance of the motor. So again, if you can balance, a two-wheel e-bike is great. You can ride it everywhere like a normal bicycle, still get exercise, and you can zip around really quickly and easily. Now, if you're somebody who maybe the balance isn't as good and you're scared of falling off, then a three-wheel or a four-wheel bike is a great option.
If you're looking at a three-wheel e-bike, I would say... You have to figure out what's most important to you. This Simple Glide right here is incredibly comfortable with this high back seat. Also very balanced. The risk of tipping is very minimal. Now, you can also pedal. You have a footrest. So that option is there as well. Now, if you want something lighter, easier to pedal, and you still want to get more exercise, you can do that as well. Now, you can get exercises on this also. Well, with the big beefy tires, like I said, if you wanna pedal without the motor, it's going to be more difficult. So you have to figure out which features are right and what you want most. Maybe you want something that's more easily transportable. Then you could get something smaller, more compact. Now, if you wanna off-road or go on trails on your e-bike or three-wheel e-bike, get a bigger tire, that'll absorb the bumps as you go either off-road or even on-road, going over curbs and stuff like that.
Now, why get a four-wheel e-bike? Well, a four-wheel e-bike is cool because not only do you have huge cargo back here and a basket up here, but it's incredibly stable. I would say that this is more stable than 80 85% of all e-trikes out there, if not 100%, I just don't wanna say 100%. And what makes it that way is because of the steering in the front, so that when one wheel goes up, the other goes down. It allows the rubber to always be in contact with the road, which makes it incredibly stable. It also has a very long frame. Now, this is something again, you can pedal while getting the assistance of the motor, but this is something you're almost entirely going to want to use some level of electric assist. This one is pretty similar as well. You'd always want to have some level of assistance. There are other trikes where, like I said, you could pedal on your own more easily. And this four-wheel e-bike, because of how heavy it is, you can pedal, but you're always going to want to have the motor. Now you have the option of throttles on all these. So if you want to press the throttle and not pedal at all, you can do that as well. So if you need something that you want to sit on and be balanced on, you're gonna want a three-wheel or a four-wheel e-bike.
If you can balance on your own and that's not a concern, you can opt for a two-wheel e-bike. The other thing is maybe you want a four-wheel e-bike to have that cargo space, but you also want a two-wheel e-bike to be maybe your exercise e-bike to get around, right? So there could be reasons for each of these. A three-wheel one, this one's also good to have nimbleness for transportation. Something that can get you around indoors as well, if you need something for mobility, also. The other cool thing about the four-wheeler is that taking on trails, off-roading, is fun on this. Very stable, very powerful with these big treads that also play a role. Now, the other thing, too, is like choosing a two-four four-wheel bike that's only one of the choices, right? There are the motor sizes as well, so I can't necessarily say a four-wheel e-bike is right for you. I'd also have to consider, well, what motor size do you want? What riding position do you want? Things of that nature.

Also, these three and four-wheel e-bikes are pretty much equal in stability because of the way they're designed. But not all three-wheel e-bikes are designed like this. Some are more compact, more upright, and not as stable as this design. So it depends. When you are searching for an e-bike, what factors are most important to you? Maybe you're someone who wants to have four wheels on the ground at all times, which makes you feel safer and secure. I can understand that would make this a great option in that case. Also, these are truly, this is mobility devices as well, but these are evolving what truly is a mobility device. Especially something like this, with how comfortable the seat is, how relaxed you can be, and how you can just sit down and not have to balance at all. It's now a crossover between an actual bicycle and a true electric mobility device in that sense. So two, three, and four-wheel bikes all have different purposes, and are all good for different things. It's also a lot of personal preference.
It's also maybe what you just think is cool or fun. Having fun on an electric bike is also one of the number one most important things, but being safe is also important. The most important, right? Being safe. So get something stable, get something right for your body, whether it's a two, three, or four-wheel bike; what feels best for you is ultimately most important.
