Seniors, don't buy a mobility scooter; buy these e-trikes. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry, and seniors,. Today, I'm going to explain to you why you shouldn't get a mobility scooter, you should get an electric trike, or maybe you should get both. Right here, I've got two electric tricycles from Sixthreezero. The Simple Glide 500-watt front hub motor and the Simple Glide 750-watt rear mount motor with the four-inch fat tires. Now, if you're somebody over the age of 60, 65, 70, or if you're just someone that has mobility issues and you are considering getting an electric scooter or a mobility scooter for transportation and getting around, I'm gonna tell you why I think considering an electric trike, specifically these two, or any electric trike for that matter, may be a better option. Now, mobility scooters, I think are great for indoor use in stores and other locations that are indoors, where you need to get around. Now, the downside of most of those mobility scooters is they're limited to a very slow mile per hour, which is typically less than five miles an hour, if not even less than three miles an hour.
So if you're talking about going any sort of distance, you know, more than half a mile to a mile, it's gonna take you a long time to get there if you're traveling at that speed. The other thing about those is that going up and down curbs and bumps on those can be a little bit cumbersome, depending on which electric scooter you have. Now, all of this depends on your physical ability and what you're comfortable with, and what you're also looking to accomplish. If you're somebody who still wants to be active in the sense that you want to be out, you want to be getting around, you want to be going places and doing it outdoors, it's something that you specifically want to do. An electric trike is a better option than many of these electric mobility scooters. Now, you can also see why I like these two electric trikes in particular is because they have the type of seats that you find, or a similar type of seat that you'll find on a mobility scooter. You have a high backrest. You've got some lumbar support. You have armrests. You also have the capability of sliding the seat forward and backward. The armrests come up and down for easy mounting and dismounting, getting on and off. And you also have the option with one with fatter tires.
So if you do want to go on trails, hard pack terrain, you have that ability with these four-inch-wide tires. Now, these are tricycles. Some of the mobility scooters have four wheels. Some are also tricycles, or they have three wheels as well. Both of these are incredibly stable because of the elongated frame and the low center of gravity. Inch-wide tire version, you get even more stability with these extra-wide tires. So tipping over is never something you have to worry about. Now, the really cool thing about these is you can get up to speeds of 16 miles an hour. So if you want to get somewhere relatively quickly or you want to take on trips that are one mile, two mile, three miles, you have the ability on these because of the power you have and because of the 15 amp hour battery that can provide a range of up to 50 miles. Now, the other cool thing is that if you are somebody who still has the ability to use your legs and walk, But for longer distances or longer outings outside, you just prefer to have a mobility scooter. The really cool thing about this is that you obviously have pedals. So if you do want to get some exercise and exercise your legs, you have the ability to pedal either of these without using the electric assist, or you can pedal and have the motor assist you while you pedal.
So either option is available to you, and it allows you to give your legs a little bit of a workout. You know, the one thing about getting into a mobility scooter is that at that point when you're driving it around, you're not getting any exercise for your lower body in any way, shape, or form. Now, for any of you who don't have the ability to use your legs in any capacity, that may be a better option for you or you can also position your feet on the pedals here and still just use the twist throttle to have this go. So if you don't want to pedal at all, you don't have to. You can use the throttle, and you'll be able to go more powerfully than the typical mobility scooter, and with longer ranges. And the other cool thing now on this newer version is we do have a footrest here as well that you can put your feet on if you want to cruise around that way, put you in an ergonomic riding position. Now, like I said, all the controls are up here. You can easily control them. You have a full-color display. You have mechanical disc brakes that will stop this easily and quickly. And operating these is just as simple and as easy as a mobility scooter. It's as simple as pressing a button to power it on and twisting the throttle to go. You also have a front basket here. You can put all your belongings on. You could also add a bag.
To the front to carry extra things like keys, wallet, and phones when you go out for a trip as well. So if you're somebody who wants to go longer distances, take on different terrains, and you want or are looking for a mobility scooter, I think considering one of these two trikes would be a great option for you. Also, when you talk about price comparisons, the price comparison between these e-trikes is going to be very simple, similar to any mobility scooter out there. The other thing I will say is if you do want to take these indoors, you can very easily steer them through hallways and stores. And if this is your medical device, all stores should let you in to utilize this as your way of getting around through the aisles. Now, the other cool thing, too, is that both of these trikes also have the reverse option. Just like on a mobility scooter, you can shift this into reverse and go backwards. So if you're parking in tight places or let's say that you're using it to get around somewhere for the longer range trips, and maybe you're going to a park and you want to park it, get on, sit on the bench, get back on. You need to reverse out of the spot you're in. You can do it on both of these e-trikes. So the capabilities of these are the same as a mobility scooter.
You're just getting the ability to not only go faster, but to take on different terrains as well, and also get exercise if that's something that your body is still capable of with your legs.
