Hey, everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and E-bike industry, and today I'm going to show you the most comfortable E-bike and bike seats for heavier riders. Stick around.
All right, today I'm going to show you the most comfortable bike and E-bike seat for heavier riders. Before I do, hit the subscribe button below, stay in touch with us here at SixThreeZero, and be the first to know about all the new content we're putting out, giveaways we do, and of course, new product releases.
All right, so with me here today, I have Stella and Arden, and they're going to demonstrate, or try out, or test out, what I believe to be the most comfortable bike seat for heavier riders. Stella, tell us your height and your weight.
Stella: I'm 5'7" and a half, and I'm 250 pounds.
Dustin: Okay, and Arden, how about you?
Arden: I'm 5'10", 300 pounds.
Dustin: Cool. A lot of bike seats out there, very narrow cut. If you're a racer or a road cyclist, those are great. If you're looking for ergonomics or aerodynamics, sorry, aerodynamics, but not always going to be the most comfortable thing, and they take a while to get your sit bone adjusted and comfortable with those seats. Now, if you ride every day, you can use a thin seat, and as I said, over time your body will adjust and they will become more and more comfortable. But if you're a recreational rider, or you're on the bike every day, but you're not doing aggressive rides, you want something that you just get onto and it's very, very comfortable. The reality of most grown adults is we are not ultra, ultra slim where a lot of products are catered to. At SixThreeZero, we listened to our rider base and we came out with the Super Max Cush Saddle, which I'm going to show you in a second.
Now we have our standard seat here, which is ultra comfortable as well, but we've gone even larger, and we're going to see how Arden and Stella feel about that, and what they think the difference is, and which one they feel better to them. The standard SixThreeZero seat right here, just to give you some perspective, is about nine and a half inches wide, and when you're talking about racing saddles or road bike saddles, you're probably talking about less than half of that, you're talking about three inches wide, four inches wide. This is already a wide saddle, and we've got a few other options as well. The Super Max Cush is the mecca of it all. The Super Max Cush is 14 and a half inches wide, so it's going to give you a lot more coverage, more space for your rear to sit on, and just overall not sticking up your butt as a lot of seats do. Let's go ahead and have Arden, why don't you hop on this one, and just sit on it -
Arden: Sure.
Dustin: - and see how it feels when you sit down on it.
Arden: Oh, wow.
Dustin: Do you like that one?
Arden: Yeah.
Dustin: Not bad.
Arden: Not bad.
Dustin: Okay. Good perspective. Now, Stella, why don't you jump on this one? We need the seat lower, or are you good there?
Stella: Let me see. I think I need a little bit more -
Dustin: Width?
Stella: Width.
Dustin: Okay. Fair enough.
Stella: Yeah.
Dustin: Let's now have you, Arden, move on to this one. Now this is a Super Max Cush without the backrest.
Arden: Oh, wow.
Dustin: Feel better?
Arden: Yeah, it's like hanging out in front of the TV relaxed.
Dustin: The other thing too is, you can go ahead and get off. When you get off this one you can actually, there you go.
Arden: Yeah.
Dustin: It's with a step-through frame. All right, Stella, go ahead and try this one. Same thing, you can step onto the frame, make it a little bit easier so you don't have to... or you can do that too. Oops. Here, let me tighten down the seat a little bit. Sorry, get off real quick.
Stella: Get off.
Dustin: Let's see. You can stay right there. Now it's a quick release. We can easily adjust that. Okay, try that. I can lower the seat if you need it a little lower.
Stella: Oh, yeah, that's better. There's more cushion in the back.
Dustin: Yeah.
Stella: Yeah, okay.
Dustin: Like that better?
Stella: I like this better.
Dustin: Okay. Now let's move on to our third option. Both definitely, would I say you prefer the Super Max, this one over the first one?
Arden: Oh definitely.
Dustin: Yeah. Okay, let's try this one now. Now this one has a backrest. See how you like that?
Stella: Ooh.
Dustin: Can you feel the backrest a little bit?
Stella: Yeah, I can feel it a little bit. Yeah, I feel supported.
Dustin: Okay.
Stella: Support where I need it.
Dustin: Cool. We'll have you do a test ride in a second.
Stella: Okay.
Dustin: Let me make sure this seat's tight as well. It should be. Okay, Arden, go ahead and try that one.
Arden: The step-through is really nice.
Dustin: Yeah.
Stella: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Arden: Oh wow. Very nice. Very comfortable.
Dustin: Can you feel the backrest?
Arden: Oh definitely.
Dustin: Cool.
Arden: Nice to have a little support there as well.
Dustin: Yeah.
Stella: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Dustin: Yeah. We can actually raise and lower this too if you want it lower, want the support lower, higher.
Arden: Nice.
Dustin: Maybe down lower might be... Okay, let's try this now. Let's have Arden go ahead first.
Arden: Sure.
Dustin: We'll take a test ride on this bike quickly. Okay. Go ahead and just do a little lap in the parking lot.
Arden: You got it.
Dustin: I probably should have asked, have you ridden an E-bike before?
Arden: No, it's my first time.
Dustin: Okay. All right. How it works is you have something called pedal assist.
Arden: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Dustin: You have gears one through five here, it's not gears sorry, assistance levels. You're in one, when you start pedaling, you're going to feel the assistance kick in. It's just like riding a bike. You have a throttle here as well, if this is in anything above zero, this throttle will be active and able to be used. If you push this, it's a thumb throttle, don't do it while you're standing here.
Arden: Okay.
Dustin: When the brakes are engaged, it cuts the throttle anyways, but you can do that like a motorcycle as well.
Arden: Okay.
Dustin: Up to you. You can just go up here, make a loop and come back, to see how it feels.
Arden: Got it. Wow.
Dustin: Okay. Not too bad. Felt pretty good.
Arden: Great.
Dustin: Okay. All right, go ahead and jump off this one.
Arden: Okay.
Dustin: We'll have him move, and then we'll run you through too, so he can get the quick experience of feeling one and the other. This is the same deal, when you pedal, it's going to kick in, go ahead and see what you... We can lower the seat if you want it lower.
Arden: No, it's good.
Dustin: Okay. Now does that feel more comfortable?
Arden: Definitely more comfortable.
Dustin: Do you like having a wider space for you to sit down on?
Arden: Absolutely. It just adds a little more support, a little more cushion.
Dustin: Yeah.
Arden: It's already a nice experience as it is, and just makes it even better.
Dustin: Yeah. All right. Let's try the last one then with the back rest and see what you think.
Arden: Sure.
Dustin: Oh, wait. Here, let's go ahead and turn it on.
Arden: Yeah.
Dustin: Yep. Just hold this down.
Arden: Okay.
Dustin: There you go. Can you feel the support?
Arden: Definitely. It's nice to have a little something in the back.
Dustin: Do you prefer, obviously, the bigger one over this one? It feels more comfortable.
Arden: Sure. Yeah, absolutely.
Dustin: Then do you prefer the backrest or no backrest?
Arden: Well, I think there would definitely be times I'm definitely glad that it would be there, there are times, to your point, where you can maybe lower it, and I would definitely want it there.
Dustin: Yeah.
Arden: Yeah.
Dustin: Okay, fair enough.
Arden: Even if sometimes I'd be leaning forward. Yeah.
Dustin: Cool. All right. Stella, are you ready?
Stella: Yes.
Dustin: Okay. We're all set up.
Stella: Woo-hoo.
Dustin: Okay. Option one. How does it feel all in all?
Stella: This is average for me because the seat is hurting my hoo-ha.
Dustin: Okay.
Stella: I wouldn't want to do it for a long time.
Dustin: Fair enough.
Stella: Yeah.
Dustin: All right, let's move on to this one.
Stella: Okay.
Dustin: I see a bigger smile. Does it feel better?
Stella: This feels much better. Parallel parking.
Dustin: That's okay. You can stop right there.
Stella: Okay.
Dustin: All right. Let's get you on the last one with the backrest, and I'll try to lower it down just a touch. See how that feels right there. Oops. Wait, yeah. Okay, hold on, let me tighten this a little more. Okay. See if that's good. Can you feel the backrest?
Stella: Yes. I could feel the backrest. Okay. I like that. I would have it up higher for me.
Dustin: Oh, this is higher?
Stella: Yeah.
Dustin: Okay, we can do that. Like up there?
Stella: Yeah. That will give me the support that I need.
Dustin: Make sure. You want to try it one more time.
Stella: Okay.
Dustin: Let's see if you feel it better like that.
Stella: Yeah, that's much better.
Dustin: Better?
Stella: Yeah.
Dustin: Now do you think you prefer it with or without the backrest?
Stella: I prefer it because I have back issues, but I can rest.
Dustin: Lean back a little bit.
Stella: Yeah. The lean back -
Dustin: And get support.
Stella: - and support me while I rest.
Dustin: Beautiful, I like that.
Stella: Yeah.
Dustin: Let's do this too. I think the important thing, so you can see with the wider seat, the important thing is not a lot of products are geared mainly for slim and average size people. What we try to do is make a seat that's going to have a wider base to cradle varying degrees of width. I think when you have a narrow seat, it's not going to accommodate everyone. We actually have other seats as well, small, medium, large, extra large, different widths or wider widths for each one of those seats. I want to show why, Arden, if you mind getting on this seat first.
Arden: Sure.
Dustin: When we look at it from this way, you can see he's got a leg hanging over the sides, that's going to cut into your leg and not be comfortable. Now again, for a lot of riders that may be fine. It's really about finding the size that's best for you, and your comfort also, it's not necessarily about your size, big, small, medium, it's about what is going to work for your body type. To be honest with you, somebody who is 130 pounds may also prefer this because of their bone structure, their hip structure, and things of that nature. It depends on what feels best on your leg. You can see now he's got a lot of leg overhang, there's not a lot of support.
Now let's try this one.
Arden: Sure.
Dustin: Now you can just see right there alone, how much more it's covering for him, and how much more he's sitting on the seat and cradling, and you can also see with the sides coming up, it's just giving him more support, making it, what I believe to be more comfortable, am I right?
Arden: Yeah.
Dustin: We said that already.
Arden: Definitely more comfortable.
Dustin: Yeah. I think part of that too is, instead of the seat cutting you off inside the middle, this is coming around the edges to give that support, as you need to make it feel more comfortable.
Stella, do you mind hopping on this as well to this one?
Stella: This one?
Dustin: Yeah, just to show the difference in the support that you get from these saddles. Okay, same thing. Now we'll see. Okay, now if you want to go ahead and get on this one, and there you go. If you just sit back, there you go. You can see, especially with that back piece, where it has the little bit of coming up on the sides, finding the right words to use here, I would say cups your rear, and it just gives that added support on the edges so you're not falling off or hanging off the sides. That's something we added in there. You can go ahead and get off.
Again, not only is this the Super Max Cush great for heavier riders, I think certain riders just period if you want something that's going to give you that width, so it's going to support your rear while you're riding, that is a great option. Our standard seat here is a great option as well, it doesn't have as much width, so it depends on your body type, and what you're looking for. I think our riders today would agree that the Super Max Cush is a great option for heavier riders.
If you have any other questions about it at all before we go, I wanted to show it real quick on camera, just to do a side-by-side comparison. Again, this is our standard seat at nine and a half inches and is already an oversized cruiser saddle, so if I'm putting these two side-by-side, you can see that our Super Max Cush is about double the width of this one. There you go. It really trumps it.
Again, if you have any other questions about the Super Max Cush Saddle or the backrest option, which both riders seem to prefer, shoot us an email at theteam@sixthreezero.com, or call us at 310-982-2877. If you're in the market for a great seat, Super Max Cush on our website, SixThreeZero.com. Before you buy, if you want to get other riders' opinions on how they like the seat, go to our Facebook pedalers group, you can ask them questions, see how they like it, and if they're already using it. Thanks for sticking around, and don't forget, it's your journey, your experience. Enjoy the ride.
