Welcome cetizens of the tricycle universe. Peter Kaltreider here at Sixthreezero e-bikes, e-trikes, and bikes. How do you shift a tricycle? Okay. So you came here because you didn't know where else to go to figure out how to shift your trike or e-trike. I'm going to show you how to do it. Here's the shifter. It's right here on the right side of the handlebar. And what it does is it activates a cable, which goes around to a device called the rear derailleur, this puppy right here, your best little friend, and then that will shift the gear. So we'll put the chain onto different gears. In this case, there are seven. And what this is, is that a higher gear will let you go faster, and a lower gear will make riding easier.
It'll be slower, but easier on a lower gear. In a higher gear, it will be faster. Okay? Now I'm going to ride this. Nate's going to hop on a bike and follow me around. And I'll show you how to shift because you have to be riding the bike to be able to shift it. All right. Let's go. Generally, you'll want to start in gear one or two. I don't know what gear I'm in right now. I can look back. Oh, I'm actually in gear one. So we're ready to go. You can start in any gear, but one is the easiest. So we're going to ride, and then Nate will catch up with me. And I'll show you how to shift. Right here. Okay. So my hand is on the shifter here. I hope Nate can see it. And we're moving.
And now I'm going to push it away from me. Just rotate like this, with one click. It's called index shifting, so it's one click. And that puts me into second, which is going to make me go a little bit faster. After a while, Nate won't be able to catch up with me on my speedy trike. So now I'm going to rotate out one more click. Click, now I'm in third gear. Oh, yeah. We're picking up speed now. Now I'm going to click into fourth. Oh, yeah. Fifth, six, seven. All right.
