How to Mount & Dismount a Tricycle & Etrike | The Safest & Easiest Way to Get On & Off 3 Wheel Bike

Hey everyone. I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and E-bike industry, and today I'm going to show you the proper way to mount a tricycle. Stick around.

All right, so today I'm going to show you the proper way to mount and dismount a tricycle, but before I do hit that subscribes button below, stay in touch with us here at sixthreezero and be the first to know about all the new content we're putting out, giveaways, and of course, new product releases.

So you're either in the market for a trike or an electric trike, and you want to know how to mount and dismount. Mounting and dismounting is an important part of any bike riding process because things can go wrong and people can get injured during the mounting and dismounting process. Now, with a tricycle, it's a lot safer because you have three wheels, so it's great, right? The bike is grounded on the ground, it's not going to go anywhere, and it's in theory easier to mount and dismount an electric trike or regular trike.

So one thing I see is a lot of people, they walk up to a tricycle and they remember how they mount a bicycle and they start doing this, right? Well, let me just show you, your leg has got to travel a long way if you're going to do that because you got to basket back here, now you got to swoop your leg over that whole way. It's not the recommended method for mounting or dismounting a tricycle. By all means, if athletically that feels good for you, you can. I don't think it's safe and I see a lot of people, who kick the basket, they kind of catch an edge, and they get hurt that way. Trust me, I'm not lying to you, I've seen it a hundred times, I do test drives all the time on tricycles. It's a different product than a two-wheel bike and requires a different mounting methodology, practice, and execution. So in any event, always hold the brakes. Very important when you're mounting or dismounting any bike, to keep the brakes engaged.

Okay, so we're not going to do the leg swing. I've got two way better methods for mounting an electric tricycle or a regular tricycle. Number one, hold the brakes. Now, if the step-over height is low enough for you, then just simply step through and slide onto the seat, and then you can put your feet on the pedals and you can sit here because you have three wheels. Now once you're on, you could ease off the brakes a little bit. You can see I'm even rolling by pulling off the brakes. Now you can just slide forward and bring your foot through, and when you're off, you can let off the brakes. So that's one way.

Now the other way is if the step-over height is kind of high, that's why a lot of people would go to the leg swoop. I have a better idea. Now what you can do, is get your pedal closest to you in the lowest position, and you can step onto that pedal. In this case, on the sixthreezero E-trike, it's only six inches off the ground. So this is going to be the best mounting strategy for most people. Very simple, very easy. Step onto the pedal. From here, just step up on the pedal and put your butt down. And so now you've got both your feet on this side, just pull your leg through and you're on. Very, very easy.

Now to dismount, the same thing. You could choose whichever side you like. If you want you can stand on this pedal, bring this foot through, and step off. Or, let's get back to where we were, just come back off the same way you came on. Get to this pedal in the lowest position. Stand up. Now from here, you could also if your foot's here, you just have to kind of get it through, bring it down, and you're off. Very easy. Let me show you again, hold the brakes, step up with your left foot, get your butt down, and then come on.

Another option could be this, I'll you one more option if the seat can go low enough, which on a sixthreezero it can, you can put your butt down first, right? So sit here first. So as opposed to stepping up on the pedal, just sit down first on the seat, and from here pull your foot through. So it's easier than having to do crazy things, lift your leg, stuff like that. Then from there, you can get off, and pull your leg through.

So two different, much better options than doing the leg swoop. And again, on a tricycle, that's not an advisable way of mounting and dismounting.
