How to get exercise with spinal stenosis. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry, and today we're going to talk about how to get exercise with spinal stenosis. All right, we've got three electric trikes right here that are great for someone you have spinal stenosis. I actually just finished up with a 65-year-old rider who has spinal stenosis and is having a little bit of trouble walking, lifting their legs, also suffering some pain. Now, it's earlier stages, so it's not too bad, and she wants to continue exercising to keep her body moving. As per her doctor, they've recommended, you know, to stay mobile, to reduce the symptoms of the spinal stenosis.
Now, it's not going to cure it, but it can help make it better. Now, she just went through and test rode all three of these electric trikes, and ultimately is going to choose, or ultimately did show choose, the Easy Transit, which is a 16-inch foldable e-trike with a very low step-through, easy to get on and off. But actually, she loved both of the Simple Glide e-trikes right here because of the comfort of the seat and the ease of getting on and off. She just wasn't necessarily ready to commit to the cost of these because they are a little more expensive than the Easy Transit, but she loves them both. Now, if you're somebody who suffers from spinal stenosis and you do want to continue to get exercise and move your body, and maybe you're not able to ride a two-wheel bike anymore.
An electric tricycle is a great option. The reason is that you can use the assistance of the motor to help propel the trike and keep your legs moving. So if you don't have the muscle strength initially to pedal on your own, using the assist is great. Also, if you want this to double as a mobility device, you can utilize the throttles, twist them, or push them, depending on which type of throttle it has. And the trike can move without you pedaling at all, and that was really beneficial for our rider who just test-rode with the spinal stenosis. She can utilize the pedal assist to help her. Then as you build your leg strength back, you can either reduce the assistance if you see fit, or you can continue to use the same resistance that you've always used.
So, again, if you're someone with spinal stenosis, I love electric trikes for you. We just had a rider who's gonna get into it, and I think it's a great benefit. Now, the key is to find something that works for your body. With her, one thing she did struggle with, again, was the step over height, and all three of these worked for her, but just the difference between this fat tire version and this regular version, This frame is about an inch higher and that made a difference of how easy or hard it was for her to get her foot over the frame. So something to keep in mind as well. That is why she liked the 16-inch wheel here, also because of a low center of gravity, it is easy to mount and dismount, and is easy for her to get her leg over and step over the frame. So if you have any other thoughts, questions, or concerns, and you're someone with spinal stenosis, please put them below.
