How Fast Can an Electric Bike Go | E-Bike Top Speeds

Okay, I'm here with Alanna today and we are going to find out how fast do e-bikes go, and we got a little surprise for you. We may or may not be... Well, I don't want to tell you. You have to watch and stick around, but we've got our EVRYjourney 500 watts, our Around The Block 500 watts, full electric. We are going to take the top speed without electricity, top speed with pedal assist, and top speed with a throttle, so we can show you how fast can we go, and definitely we're going to beat that guy right there. So stick around and watch us blaze.

We're at the starting line, this nice crack here, and by the way, we're in Trestles, California. I don't know if you want to shoot our runway right here. We do have a car coming as we speak. That's okay though. We've got a nice, nice long runway here. I'm thinking like a quarter mile, third of a mile. That's going to give us a runway to really ramp up speed.

Alanna and I are just going to have a full-out competition here. We're going to see who can go fastest. Round one, no electric, no pedal assist. We're going to show you our speed. We're going to go for it. I think I'm going to take this one.

Do you think you can beat me?

No, I know I'm going to beat you.

I'm more aerodynamic.

Wow. Stick around, here we go. Oh, God. What are we at? I'm already at 20. 23. 27, 28.

I hit 28. Unfortunately, the GoPro got a little crazy. What was your top speed?

I was afraid to look, but I did see 21 at one point.

I'm feeling good, really confident. I knew I had it in me. I've been training a lot of pelotons.

Ooh, that first race.

Okay. Now we're going round two. Around The Blocks 500 watt without the electric. We're going to see what top speed we can hit manually. I'll be honest, my legs are feeling toast, but I still feel confident.

I conserved some energy, so maybe I have a chance this time.

go.

Here we go, okay. 20. Come on, come on, come on, come on.

I'm so slow.

Wow. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Feeling good though, feeling good. I hit 27. I think I killed a little energy on that first run, but now let's add electric. Let's show you guys what sixthreezero e-bikes can do. Let's blaze.

I'm a Flash e-bike. I test the speed of e-bikes. Here we go. Alanna and I are now converted into speedsters. Full costumes. We're going to take these babies in a pedal-assist mode now and show you what top speeds we can hit with the assistance of the motor. Remember, 500 watts, we're going to kick it up to level five. Get your screen on level five. We're The Flash here, we're not messing around. We're going to go for top speeds. So, watch us blaze. EVRYjourney 500, EVRYjourney 500, level playing fields. Same motor, same batteries, 500-watt power. I'm ready. I'm amped. Look at this outfit. I'm fricking muscular.

On your marks, get set, go.

Okay, let's do this. Come on baby, come on baby, come on baby, come on baby, come on baby. 29, 29. Can I get 30? No. Oh, well, I gave it all we had. I think I hit 30.

Really?

Mass costume. Flash, I mean. Yeah, just about 30. How did you deliver that, Flash?

only hit 23.

Wow. The muscles don't lie folks, the muscles don't lie. 30 miles an hour, pedal-assist five.

Okay, here we are. Full throttle. 500-watt EVRYjourney, 500-watt EVRYjourney now. This might be Alanna's race to win. We're going to see. Wow, just putting the gloves on.

Ready.

Okay. Let's do this. Don't cheat. Wow. And that, my friend, is why... I might catch up though, who knows? Okay, I'm at 18, 19, 20.

How?

Why am I gaining on you?

How?

20.8. It's the aerodynamics. 20.5. The Flash strikes again.

Little mishap. What actually transpired there was Alanna, Flashette, thought she was on a 500 watt when in reality this EVRYjourney's a 250 watt, so her motor stops at about... when you do full throttle, it's going to cut it at about 18 miles an hour full throttle. That's a safety regulation so you don't overuse the motor, burn it out, things like that, so when she was... when her motor was topping out at 18, I was cruising by at about 20 and a half miles an hour on the 500 watts, and the 500 watts are going to do the same thing. It's going to cut the motor at about 20.

There is a bypass to that. We can't really tell you, but you can change the controller to have it go faster. I don't recommend it. It's also not legal across many States if you're taking it on the pavement, but that's going to allow it to go faster than 20, and it's going to get rid of the inhibitor basically, so on my bike I was able to go a little bit over 20 without the motor cutting. Alanna's bike's the 250, and that's stock. Haven't changed anything on the controller setting, so 18's going to be your max. Once you hit 18, it's going to die a little back, but obviously, for The Flash, 18's not fast enough for me, so I hit 20.

The interesting thing is, we're going to do the ATB 500 watts. You saw the pedal-assist race where I absolutely smoked Alanna, but we didn't even know at that point that she had a 250 watt, I had a 500 watt. Unfortunately, it wasn't apples to apples. Now we're going to get on the 500 watts Around The Blocks. We're not even certain at this point if this isn't a 500 watt, we have to double-check that. I'm pretty sure it is.

Mine is. The women's is, for sure.

The women's is, yeah. It is hard to tell, in all honesty, when you look at the bikes on the surface level. If you don't look at the motor or the battery size, you can't really tell what the different motor sizes are. We're going to do it again. Pedal-assist, 500 watt ATB. We'll see how that pans out, and then we'll do the full throttle.

And the other thing to remember is, the batteries and the motors are the same between all of our models, as of today. How the 500 watt ATBs perform is going to be the same as how the EVRYjourney 500 watts would perform, more or less, so you got to see the 500 watt compared to the 250 watt, how those compare in the pedal assist and the throttle, now you're going to see apples to apples with the 500 watts.

Let's try this again. Do you think you got it? Are you ready?

I'm ready.

Okay, cool. Let's run it back.

Now I know why I was so slow. It had nothing to do with me personally and everything to do with the motor.

The Flash does not lose in speed tests. Let's be serious.

I'm also The Flash.

Oh, right. All right, so here we are. Now we're on the 500 watt ATB. Confirmed 500 watts, 500 watts. Women's, men's. We're going to see our top speed and-

... we're going to do pedal assist. Game on.

On your marks, get set, go.

Oh, she's off to a better start.

Yeah.

Go, go, go, go, go.

No.

The Flash. The Flash. 30.

I almost had it. I just don't have the endurance. At a quarter-mile, I would've won easy.

It's to be expected with the weight differential that she'd get the lead out of the gate. I'm legitimately light-headed.

I was beating you.

If I would have been closer to the quarter-mile... in all fairness, we're not racing in a quarter-mile, are we?

All right, all right. Let's do the throttle race.

I hit 30. I'm almost positive. 30.

Let me see.

The other thing too is, I'm a slow starter, what can I say? Usain Bolt, he didn't get out of the gates first necessarily, but once you hit your stride, that's all that matters. We're racing to the finish line.

My top speed, 25. I get nervous when I start getting too fast.

The final showdown, 500 watts vs 500 watts, no pedaling. Don't forget, don't pedal.

Just throttle. We're going to see top speeds here now. I weigh 220. Alanna, if you watch her fitness journey video, weighs, we'll say 117 as of today, but she's cutting weight, we don't know the final weight. Tune into that episode for that. So we got about a hundred-pound difference here. Let's check the max speeds.

Wow. And she's off folks. I don't stand a chance. The Flash is no more. 21.2, 21.3. Down to 20. 21, then the motor cut on me. Safety feature.

Wow, I'm the winner. Last race, best race.

Really came down to the start.

For the winners.

I'm going to start cutting weight now. I think also good for you guys to see. Obviously the weight difference, the wind, the pavement, it totally impacts the performance. Although, what was your max speed?

21.

So we got to the same max speed. It's just the acceleration difference. She got off the line a lot quicker, but I maxed out at 21 too. I guess verdict, top speed is not affected, but acceleration is.

Okay, the verdict? E-bikes go fast. We tested the 250 watts, 500 watts, we did it manually, we did it pedal assist, and we did it full throttle, and it looks like manual, you can still hit high speeds. I hit 28. We don't know?

I think my top was 25.

25 on manual?

Oh no, not on manual. I don't know. 22.

20 something. We'll check the stats in the ride. They'll be in there. Pedal-assist, you're going to get up to about 25. I hit 30 actually on the ATB 500. You saw all the stats in the video, and then full throttle, both 500 watts, top speed was 21, and Alanna's on the 250 watts was 18. You can go fast. Trust me, 30 is flying. I didn't even feel safe, although I had my costume on. I felt safe with this. These muscles protect me.
