How to Choose the Best Other Power Driven Mobility Device for You? ETrikes, Scooters & 3 Wheels

Hey everyone. I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today we're going to answer the question, how do you choose the right other power-driven mobility device for you? Stick around.

All right, so today we're going to answer the question of how to find the best other power-driven mobility device for you. But before we get into it, hit the subscribe button below. Stay in touch with us here at Sixthreezero. Be the first to know about all the new content we're putting out, giveaways we're doing, and of course, new product releases. All right, so in recent years, electric transportation is taking over, especially in the personal mobility space. A lot more options if you have a mobility issue or a disability and you need to get around for getting out in the town, going into stores, and things like that. There are so many options now for your personal mobility device. This is why the ADA, the American Disabilities Act, has actually coined a term called other power-driven mobility devices. That's because years ago, you wouldn't see the amount of mobility devices you're seeing today.

With the expansion of technology possibilities, there's being more and more products developed for particular niche issues with mobility. So depending on the degree to which you're mobile or e-mobile, you can find a specific product, and it's just getting better and expanding the possibilities to keep more people as mobile as possible longer. So with that said, the ADA has now coined the term other power-driven mobility devices because, in order to make sure everyone's getting equal treatment that has a disability or a mobility issue, the ADA has said, "Well, now, stores, businesses have to allow anyone with a mobility issue to come into their store with their other power-driven mobility device of their choosing." So that can encompass anything: scooters, sit-down scooters, electric bikes, electric tricycles, you name it. If it's best suited for you, under the ADA, you are now covered to bring that device into a store.

Now, there are some limitations, and I would suggest going Googling ADA, another power-driven mobility device, which is OTDMD, which is the acronym they're using now. You can look it up to get the full details. Private businesses are allowed to restrict you in certain areas of their stores if they deem it dangerous for you to go to a certain location with your mobility device if they think maybe it's too large for a given space, or if it's just not safe to be in that particular space with your mobility device. So again, look up on the website, and also, if you are going to a particular store and you have any concerns, you can talk to them in advance. But again, for the most part, they're going to have to let you in depending, or they're going to have to let you in pretty much regardless of your mobility device and you have a mobility issue, they're going to have to let you with it.

So with that said, how do you choose what is right for you? Now, that's going to be a personal question. What I'll try to fill you in on today is the options that exist. As I touched on before, there are so many products out there now that cater to different levels of mobility and e-mobility. There are e-bikes now that can go upwards of 60 miles an hour and they're two wheels. There are other mobility devices now that are helping people walk that have been paralyzed for years. So you have to ask yourself, "What am I looking for? What can I push my body to do? At what stage am I either a disability? Am I trying to rehab? Am I trying to keep my body moving? Am I just happy to get out and get fresh air? And if it's on an electric scooter, I don't care if I move my legs."

If you do still have the ability to move your legs and you want to keep moving them a little bit, there are options. And that's one thing I wanted to talk about today is now falling under this other power-driven mobility device is electric tricycles. In particular, we have electric tricycles like this one right here, which is a folding e-trike, which has a reverse option. It also has a throttle option. It can function basically the same as electric scooters, but you get the benefit of having the pedals. Now why is this so great? Because if you still have the ability to move your legs, but you just don't have the kind of strength maybe you once had, but you want to keep the blood flowing and moving, this is a great option to choose as your mobility device, because not only can you take this into stores now, use it to go shopping, but it can also be something you ride around town, get some exercise, keep your body moving.

In addition to that it folds up, and this is going to weigh less than a lot of the electric scooters that you're going to see on the market. Also, probably going to be a lot less expensive than a lot of the electric scooters on the market as well. And all of these electric tricycles behind me, you can find linked in the description below, linking back to our website where you can purchase as well. So that's something to think about for you. But what I want to get people to realize is that you don't just have to succumb to getting the typical electric scooter. Let's say you run into some sort of a mobility issue, or you need a mobility device to go shopping. But as I said, you still have the ability to move your legs, but maybe not enough to power you, but you could use the pedal assistance and still keep the blood flowing, still keep it circulating, which I think is very important for anyone to get as much exercise as possible for your body. Whatever you can do and are capable of.

The beauty of these, like the electric tricycles, is they have assistance where you can still pedal and let the motor assist you, and that's still going to be exercise. And don't let anyone tell you it isn't. Just like machines in the gym that can give you assistance to help in a certain movement as well, an electric tricycle can function in the same capacity. So the one thing I would say is to be aware now. If you are in that market, don't just settle for something typical, like a wheelchair, or as I said, an electric scooter that looks like an electric scooter. There are so many options out there, and the ADA is now covering other power-driven mobility devices like electric tricycles. So I would say take your time, do your research, figure out what your body is capable of, and talk to your doctors.

If you have physical therapists or anyone that's working with you on your mobility, discuss with them and get to know your options so you can get a mobility device that is going to best suit you. Also, if you're interested in having something like an electric tricycle, you don't have to buy both now, right? You don't have to have a tricycle or a bicycle and an electric scooter. You could find something that will suit both of those needs, so you don't have to go out and spend thousands and thousands of dollars to have an electric scooter you take in stores, and an electric tricycle you use outside, maybe in your neighborhood. You could have something like this, which could serve both needs.

So I hope that helps. If you have any other comments or questions, please put them below or reach out to us, at theteam@sixthreezero.com, or you can call us: at (310) 982-2877.
