Electric Golf Cart or Electric Trike? Which is Best for Seniors? Which Mobility Device is Best

Seniors, an electric golf cart or an electric tricycle? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today, we're going to answer the question, should seniors choose electric golf carts or electric trikes? Right here, I've got the Simple Glide 500-watt and the Fat Tire 750-watt electric trike from sixthreezero. All right, electric golf carts are becoming very popular across the country in many communities, but also in senior communities as a way to get around, especially if you live in a very large over 55 community, and you wanna get around within the community and you don't wanna drive your car and you wanna feel the breeze, electric golf carts are becoming very popular. Some of the communities are almost entirely dependent on electric golf carts, and I think it's great. It's a great way to minimize the space that cars are taking up in the community. Also, if you get an electric one, it's a clean-air vehicle, and you can still bring passengers with you, and you get to feel the sun and the air directly on your body when you're outside driving an electric golf cart. Now, electric trikes have become very popular in the last five years as well, and a lot of these have the same capabilities as an electric golf cart in terms of the range you can go, the distance you can go, range and distance are the same.

Also the terrain you can go on, and many also, we have a version, our Rickshaw, which you can carry passengers on as well. Now, in many instances, you may not wanna replace your electric golf cart with an electric trike, but it may be something that you'd wanna have in addition to having your electric golf cart. Now, let's be honest, if you get an electric golf cart, you're not getting any exercise, right? You're not walking around the community, you're utilizing it as a way to transport yourself and drive, and it can be practical, but you're not getting exercise. So, if before maybe you walked around your community or you rode your bicycle, and you got that electric golf cart, now you're not getting any exercise for your legs. The benefit of an e-trike is that you can twist the throttle and the trike will go without you pedaling. So if you don't want to get exercise, you don't have to. But you also have pedals, and you can pedal them as you see fit to give your legs some exercise. You can also utilize the pedal assistance. So when you pedal, the motor can help you. So if you want to pedal, but you don't want to feel a lot of strain on your legs, you can turn this up. It has five levels of assistance, put it on level five. It will assist you while you pedal. You're still getting exercise, but you're reducing the amount of workload on your body.

So the cool thing is if you have a community and you take your electric golf cart consistently one, two, three, or four miles, you could opt to take your electric tricycle instead and still get some exercise intermittently on the rides that you do. The other thing, too, about an electric golf cart and a trike is this electric tricycle you can park where bicycles park. So you can lock it in the bike rack, A golf cart is going to require either a spot specifically designated for golf carts, or you're going to park in a normal parking spot. So, if in your community you drive to a parking lot, you're going to have to park that golf cart in one of those two spots. With your electric trike, you can pull that right up to wherever the parking is for bicycles and park it there no problem, or park it on the sidewalk. So you won't have to fight over parking spots when you're driving an electric tricycle. Now, the other thing too about electric golf carts, depending on what type you're looking at, is gonna be about $5,000 and up. A lot of them are gonna be 10, $15,000, at which point you're spending almost as much as you would on a car on this electric golf cart. For an electric tricycle, you'll spend a few thousand, one, two, $3,000, and you're gonna get a mobility device that can do all of the things that you could do in an electric golf cart. So, you know, depending on what your budget is and how much you want to spend, also the type of rides that you're doing, are you taking your golf cart literally just half a mile, a mile trip, you know, then an electric trike is a great option. If you're taking your electric golf cart up to 10 miles, maybe you want to be in a, you know, a more vehicle-type device, but the range on both of these electric trikes is up to 50 miles.

So from a range perspective, you're gonna go just as far on these trikes as you are in your golf cart and probably farther. The other cool thing is you can carry extra batteries with you on these electric trikes, and they can easily be moved, removed, and changed simply. You twist the key down here, theyslide out, and you pop it in. On an electric golf cart, you're not changing the battery, right? If your battery dies, that's it. And I've ridden in many where the max range you're getting on a lot of those is 10, 15 miles, depending on the terrain that you're doing and the weight of the passengers. Now, again, you can spend more money and get bigger batteries for the golf carts as well. But you're talking about increasing the price by one to $3,000, depending on the battery. With these electric trikes, you can add an extra battery for four or five, for $600, and change it out yourself while you're on rides. You can carry it with you in your basket. You could double your range from 50 to 100 miles. So, something to consider when you're out shopping for a golf cart or if you're looking at trikes as well. The other thing, too, is about terrain, right? So if you have trails you wanna go on or parks you wanna ride to, you're not gonna be able to take a golf cart down trails through nature, but with your trike, you could, especially the fat tire one. You can take this off-road into narrower trails, cruise around a forest preserve, get out, and enjoy nature. And because of how small it is, you can navigate through places much easier than you could on an electric golf cart. Which is the other thing is that you can also take these indoors through indoor spaces. We've taken them into stores and other places. Now you'd have to check with your community and your local stores. But we've taken them shopping, grocery shopping.

So if you were to take it to a store, you can drive this inside as well. Your golf cart you're going to have to park outside. So, you know, many times people may drive their golf cart and then utilize the mobility scooter that the store provides. That's an option as well. Or you can drive this the whole way through your trip, load your groceries into the basket, and go for a ride home. Maybe you're somebody who doesn't want to opt out of getting a golf cart. You also want to have a trike. I think both are great mobility devices to have and can be utilized for two different reasons. Or if you're thinking about getting either, I think you can do a lot more on an electric trike, and it's going to be much better for your overall health and getting some exercise.
