Electric Bikes VS Electric Scooters | What's the Difference?

Hey guys, Dustin here, CEO of sixthreezero. Today we're going to be discussing electric bikes versus electric scooters. What's the difference? Stick with us.

So today we're going to talk about electric bikes versus electric scooters. What's the difference? Why would I get one over the other? Now, electric bikes versus electric scooters, what's the difference? I would say simply put, an electric bike is always going to have pedals and have the ability to be pedaled. An electric scooter is not. And typically when we talk about scooters, we're talking about two different types of scooters; a scooter, where you would stay end up, or a scooter where you would sit down. So there is some variance there. You're seeing a lot of electric scooters now that are ones that you stand up and you hold something, but they don't have seats on them. But you're also seeing scooters that do have seats.

Now, again, both types of scooters don't have pedals. The one with the seat is obviously more similar to an electric bike, but again, that's not going to have the ability to be pedaled. Now, I would say the biggest advantage to having an electric bike versus an electric scooter is the ability to go certain places.

Now, with an electric bike you don't always have to be using the motor, and especially what's going on now is a lot of cities are placing regulations on the usage of electric bikes and electric scooters. But electric bikes, I believe are treated a little bit better in terms of legislation and city governing and laws and things like that. So if you switch or get an electric scooter, you may be banned from riding in certain areas that you still could take your electric bike, but not use the motor.

So let's say you're riding somewhere and you use the motor. You're on the street. Then all of a sudden you get to a paved surface. Electric products may be banned in that area, so it wouldn't be advantageous if you had a scooter because then you're left not being able to take the scooter there if you see a sign or something indicating no electric transportation is allowed on this path. Very easy on a bike to just turn that motor off and go ahead and pedal it normally.

So that's really the major difference between the two. Obviously, there are some scooters you can sit down on. Bikes, obviously are going to be sitting down on all of them. But there are scooters you can stand up on.

But my belief is, if you're looking for an electric transportation product right now, a bike's going to be more versatile, allow you to do more things, go more places, and especially as legislation gets increased and electric scooters to get banned from certain areas, having the ability to have a bike that you can still pedal normally is going to be really advantageous.
