I have almost 20 years of experience in the e-bike and bicycle industry, from designing, to manufacturing, to retailing, to wholesaling. Today I'm going to talk to you about cheap electric bikes. Now, electric bikes are getting to be known as a more expensive product. They can range from 500 up to thousands of dollars, and it's sometimes hard to know how much money to spend. And so, a lot of people are on the hunt for cheap electric bikes.
Now, one thing I will touch on about the word cheap. The word cheap could mean one thing to one person and something to someone else. So cheap to one person could mean a thousand dollars. Cheap to another person could mean $200. Cheap to another person could mean $5,000. So, I guess when I talk about cheap electric bikes, I would say something under a thousand dollars, or even $500.
And one thing I also want to touch on about cheap electric bikes is, it doesn't mean the cheaper or the less expensive an e-bike is that it might not be a good fit for a particular user. It could be the specs are lower, which might be perfect for someone who rides less, goes shorter distances, and doesn't need a big battery. So when you search for an electric bike, and let's say you're searching for cheap electric bikes, it's important to know how you're going to use the electric bike, where you're going to use the electric bike, and really, what your needs are.
Because when you think about an e-bike, you're actually going to make your money back over time based on how much you use it. So my suggestion is if you're going to be riding this thing daily, going 10, 20, 30 miles, make sure you don't focus on the cheap element of it, the inexpensive element of it. Really try to find matching the specs to your needs, because you may find if you just try to spend less money and you start to overuse the product, you'll have bought an e-bike for an inexpensive price that isn't going to hold up according to your usage. So, I think that's just really important to know.
Now, in terms of whether should you buy a cheap electric bike, where can you find a cheap electric bike? Again, I can't talk specifically to... You could always look at Walmart, I suppose. You can always look on Amazon. I do know Costco also has cheap, inexpensive electric bikes. But what I want to say is that, again, I don't recommend that for everyone.
Now, at Sixthreezero, we obviously make a whole lineup of electric bikes. Our e-bikes start right around a thousand dollars, and they go up depending on motor sizes and battery sizes. And it's really not a one-size-fits-all type of product. And it's one of those things where you may regret jumping in just at the entry-level price point because you want to pay as little as possible for an e-bike.
Now, the other thing is when you're talking about price with electric bikes and what makes it cheaper or more expensive a lot of times is battery size, motor size, motor quality, and battery size. So if it's something like I said before you're going to use it every day, you're going to ride it a lot, you're going to get that money back in the gas you save over time. And so actually, the longer that product lasts you, the more money it's going to save you over time. If you buy a cheap electric bike and it breaks down after a year and you have to buy a new one, then actually the more expensive product would've saved you money in the long run if it lasted you longer.
So those are just things to consider. And again, because electric bikes are practical and utilitarian, it's something that actually is a transportation element, they can take you places, and it is going to save you money. If you match up an e-bike to a car, an e-bike's going to be way more affordable in the long run as you ride it and charge it. You're going to get more miles per charge on a bicycle than you will out of a car. And so, it's important to think of this purchase that way versus just, how little money can I spend.
