Are bike seats a universal fit? Stick around to find out. Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today I'm going to answer the question, are bike seats a universal fit? All right, so we sell a fair amount of seats at sixthreezero. We have some great options, some oversized seats, and some seats with backrests. You can find them all on our website and a lot of people like to upgrade their seats and try different seats from what their bike comes from, and that's great. There are so many seats out there, you know, if you're looking for a different shape, a different size, a different material, again they're all out there.
Now a question we get a lot is, are they universal? Well, there are two primary seat post types, if you want to come in for a little close-up here. Now one of the more standard ones in sort of the recreational cruiser market is a seat post seat clamp like this, and this one has a slim attachment on the end here, and the post inserts into this hardware. So you can install this hardware onto any seat that has these rails like this, and all the seat posts, now there are different diameters of the seat posts here depending on your bike, but the end piece here that slips into the actual seat hardware is going to be the same no matter the diameter of the seat post here. So as long as you have this on here and your seat post looks like this, you can install, you know, you could put this clamp on any seat and install it into basically any bike if you're using the same seat post. Now it's possible that your seat post clamps on like this. Now you can tell these are the same rails, and what I mean by rails here is I mean these, sorry, let's go ahead and put this here for a second. Okay, these are what I call the rails right here, right? Now you can see this seat post attaches directly onto the rails. Now this is going to be a more common type of seat post for higher-end road and mountain bikes where it mounts straight onto the rails like this. Now this seat post can work on this seat as well.
So if your seat came with no seat hardware, you can either buy the seat hardware and install it if you want to use a seat post like this, or you can buy a different seat post that clamps directly onto the rails. So with that said, you may order a seat online and it doesn't come with this seat hardware right here, but you have this seat hardware and this type of seat post on your bike. You can swap the seat hardware from your current seat to the new seat like this. Not a very difficult process, you just have to get it on there, or you can always buy a seat post like this that will be the same diameter as the seat post currently on your bike and mount it this way. So again, if you order a new seat and it's just the rails and doesn't have the seat hardware, don't be discouraged. If you don't want to swap it from your old seat, you can buy this seat hardware online, probably on Amazon, for not too much. I want to say maybe five to ten dollars, less. So if you want to save that money, again just switch it between your two seats, or you can buy an additional seat post that mounts like this. Now this seat is great for recreation. This one's going to be a little more stable and stronger for more high-intensity riding and things like that. Now this is still a great option, you don't need to upgrade to this, but again this is what you're going to see on more of the higher-end bikes. This is what you're going to see on more cruiser sort of recreational bikes.

Now sixthreezero bikes primarily come with this style, we also have this one as well, and if you have any bike, if you buy any replacement seat with the seat clamp style like this and the seat hardware, it'll work on any sixthreezero bike. Any brand you buy out there, any seat, it's all going to be the same. Again if it has the seat hardware like this on a different brand, it will work on a sixthreezero bike as well, or you can always buy a seat post and mount it to the rails as well. So long story short, bike seats are universal. Just make sure you've got the right seat hardware on there or switch it from your existing one, but it should work on your bike no matter what.
