All right, so you're in the market for a beach cruiser bike and you're shopping online, or you're shopping in-store. Before you purchase, the number one thing anybody should look at when looking at a bike is the return policy and the warranty policy. I'm seeing a lot of companies now that are getting very, very stringent on their returns and their warranty periods, and they are dwindling it down to the point where a lot of times the consumer is having to pay some sort of restocking fee or they have to pay their return shipping or local stores, a lot of times there's going to be a restocking fee.
So number one is if you are going to ride that bike and wear it, you need to make sure that the policy stated either at the online store or the physical store, they're going to allow you to return it after riding it some amount of miles if you don't love the bike. And it makes perfect sense. But in this day and age, while companies, stores, and brands are trying to minimize return costs and maximize profits, it's just another way to minimize the period and push a lot of that expense back to consumers for the bike being used and tried out. So especially if you are buying an e-bike and you're purchasing a bike online or an electric Beach Cruiser bike, something of that nature, and it's costing 1,000, 1,500 bucks, you want to have that time to make sure that it's going to fit you and you're going to love it.
I'm seeing very small return windows right now. I'm seeing a lot of companies in two weeks. I'm seeing other companies that if there's any wear and tear, they're going to hit you with a 20% restocking fee. I'm also seeing odometer checks for electric cruiser bikes where if the miles ridden are over a certain number, you're going to be hit with a restocking fee. So very, very, very important that before purchasing you check those policies so you know what your limitations are so it doesn't cost you money just for trying out the bike that you wanted to buy.
