Will a bike shop service the e-trike or e-bike that I bought online? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today we're going to answer the question, will a bike shop service the e-trike or e-bike that I bought online? I see this is another common question for many people searching for an e-bike or e-trike online, and there is a lot of fear out there now that local bike shops will not service e-bikes or e-trikes that are purchased online. Now, we've been selling e-bikes for the last five years. We've been around for 19 years, and in those five years, we have maybe less than five times not been able to find a local bike shop or mobile mechanic that's been able to service a customer's e-trike. Now, how it works for us is if the customer has an issue, we can reach out and find them a local shop and supply them with whatever parts are necessary to repair their e-bike or e-trike. Whether it's a warranty or out of warranty, we're still more than happy to help, with that said there are a lot of bike shops out there that will no longer service e-bikes or e-trikes that are not bought from them. Now, there are two reasons why this is happening, one is bike shops don't want to necessarily be taking care of e-bikes or e-trikes that weren't purchased from their store. So it is one way to have the local shop or the customers in the local community buy their e-bike from a local shop. Now, with that said, there's been a lot of mobile mechanics that have popped up, specifically there's a company called Valofix there are also some other ones, Valofix is nationwide.
They're a mobile mechanic company, they don't sell bikes at all, they go on location and fix and repair bikes, e-bikes, trikes, you name it. And they have experience with, at this point, probably every e-bike brand that exists out there, and they will work on anything. Now the second piece to that is an insurance reason, some shops may not have the insurance coverage to just work on any e-bike and they don't want the liability of working on products that they don't feel are good quality, or might create some kind of liability with them if they do a repair wrong, or if the parts are just not good and it's not able to be repaired in the manner that the shop sees fit, then they don't want to take it and touch the liability, which is something I completely understand. Now, with that said, there are a lot of shops out there that primarily make their revenue on repairs, whether or not the bikes were purchased from them or not, specifically the mobile mechanics. So you'll almost always be able to find somebody who can work on your e-bike or e-trike that you purchased online. I know that is a big concern. Now, one other thing I will say is there may be a lot of shops out there that don't want to work on very low-end products, and like I said, because then it becomes a question of, is it the product or the mechanic? And the mechanics may just not want to work on something where they feel like it could come back to them, although it's a low-quality product.
So if you're talking about Walmart buying e-bikes or even lower-end e-bikes, there's a higher likelihood that local mechanics won't work on it. But now a lot of the reputable online brands, and I'd like to include sixthreezero in that, most shops will be more willing to work on those because there are so many more people now that own them, and it's actually become a lucrative business to be doing the repairs on those. So again, I can't speak to every shop out there. I can only speak from our experience that we've had great success finding local mechanics able to work on e-bikes, and this would cover a lot of e-bikes that are purchased online.
