Where To Ride Your Electric Fat Tire Bike In Los Angeles [Best Beaches & Paths]

July 18, 2022

Los Angeles, California is home to some of the best weather in the United States. Get your ebike ready and plan a trip to enjoy the beautiful trails and scenery of SoCal.

Why Is LA Good For Ebiking?

LA has good weather all year long. All the seasons are perfect for biking. In addition, there is a great deal of diversity in the biking terrain. The communities in the valleys have flat, easy rides. If you want the challenge of a mountain climb and fast descents, the nearby mountains have plenty of trails. So grab a versatile bike, such as the EVRYjourney Fattire from Sixthreezero, and get out there.

Los Angeles Ebike Laws

Riders of ebikes in LA must be 16 years old or older and wear a bike helmet. They may not transport any other passengers on their ebikes. Ebikes are not allowed on bike paths, horse or hiking trails, or recreational trails unless the local law allows it. Therefore, if you ride your ebike in the LA area, you must do your research because each community can have its own laws concerning ebikes.

Riding Your Ebike In Santa Monica

Santa Monica is famous for its coastline and stunning views. Enjoy them while riding your ebike through the streets. If you have a Class 3 ebike, however, do not ride it on the famous Santa Monica Beach bike path. Only Class 1 and Class 2 ebikes that have a top speed of 20 mph are allowed there.

An excellent ebiking option is the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Ebikes are allowed on all trails where regular bikes are allowed. A fat-tire ebike is perfect for riding these trails that go from canyon floors to ridgetops.

Ebike Trails In Topanga Canyon

Take your fat tire bike to Topanga State Park. There are 14 trails there to challenge your mettle. As with other state parks, you will need to check for ebike regulations.

The Paseo Miramar Trail is 4.9 miles out-and-back with stunning views of the sea. The Parker Mesa Overlook Trail is longer at 6.9 miles out and back. Take a lunch because there is a nice picnic area and beautiful views of the canyon.

Ebike Trails In The Hollywood Hills

The best ride in Hollywood Hills is around the Hollywood Reservoir. This 3.5-mile path has 75 feet of elevation and is paved the whole way. It feels like a bit of wilderness in the midst of the city. This trail can get crowded on the weekends so it's best to ride it during the week.

Riding Your Ebike In Malibu

Point Mugu State Park in Malibu has a singletrack mountain bike trail that is popular with the locals. The Backbone Trail is another one that is good for beginning mountain bikers. Regulations concerning ebikes at this park have been changing, so call ahead for the latest.

Riding Your Ebike In Venice

The famous Venice Beach Bike Path is a very popular riding spot. It can get quite crowded, especially on weekends. If you do decide to take your ebike there, it's best to not use the motor due to the congestion. You should run your bike under pedal power only.

Other enjoyable biking spots in the Venice Beach area include the Yvonne B. Burke Park and the Venice Canals. As Venice is right on the coast you'll find mostly flat biking there, making it a great spot for family bike rides.

With so much to see and do, LA should be on your "places to visit" list. Get your ebike tuned up and ready to go. Plan your bike trip to LA today.
