Is It Hard To Learn to Ride a Tricycle as an Adult? Learning to Ride a 3 Wheel Bike

Is it hard to learn to ride a tricycle as an adult? Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have nearly 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry and today we're going to answer the question, is it hard to learn to ride a tricycle as an adult? All right so many of you out there are considering getting a tricycle or an electric tricycle, and maybe you're watching a lot of videos or you're wondering how challenging will it be to ride a tricycle. Or maybe you've tried, gotten frustrated or maybe you've tried a little bit and you're still kind of tentative now if you want to see the actual first. First-time tricycle riders, you can go to our YouTube channel. We've got lots of videos of many different types of riders riding a tricycle for the very first time. So in this video, we're not going to have demonstrations, but they do exist if you want to see them on our YouTube channel. But in theory, is it difficult to learn to ride a tricycle as an adult? Well, it really depends on the person. Now, many people think you just get on a tricycle and go, for a handful of people it is just that simple because the three wheels balance you. There's not a lot that goes into having to keep the trike upright like on a two-wheel bike. Now, with that said, how you counterbalance your weight and steer is much different than a two-wheel bicycle.

So, if you've ridden a two-wheel bike your entire life and you get onto a tricycle, your brain is going to be pre-wired to think it rides like a two-wheel bike and it does not. So that sometimes creates challenges for people who are taking the actions you would on a two-wheel bike or a three-wheel bike. So it is not difficult, but it does take a new way of riding to ride a tricycle. You're going to have to steer the handlebars, on a two-wheel bike, you lean a little bit more, on a tricycle, you lean, but only really to make sure you keep your rear wheels balanced in the back. On a two-wheel bike, you can actually lean to turn and kind of flow with the bike. Tricycles, they don't work that way, you actually have to turn the handlebars in the direction you want to go, so does it take a little bit of getting used to? I'd say it's 50-50. For half of the people, it takes no time getting used to, they get it right away. For the other 50% of people, it does take a little bit of getting used to. Now, it's not that it's hard, it's that it's different. It is much different than riding a two-wheel bike. If you're somebody who's never ridden a two-wheel bike, it actually may be much easier for you to ride a tricycle than somebody who's been riding a two-wheel bike their whole life. Because like I said, now your mind has been programmed to think that a three-wheel will ride like a two-wheel, and it does not. Now, in all the videos that I've made, all the first-time tricycle riders we've had, 99% of them after a few minutes are up and riding a tricycle with no problem. So ultimately, no, it's not difficult. It may just take a little bit of time and get used to, but I promise if you commit to it, you'll figure it out.
